I think it's definitely a bit if a stretch, but I guess they weren't too fussed about accuracy.

I think all the Iron Man/Stark/Marvel mythology went hopelessly over my head (haven't seen Iron Man or read any comics) but I thought it was quite good. Better than Thor anyway: https://moviefilmreviews.wordpress.com/ ... merica-3d/

I'm not a huge Marvel obsessive myself (haven't read the comics since I was a teenager), so probably missed some stuff. Apparently the beret-wearing Brit character played by JJ Feild is a superhero in his own right called Union Jack. Not that I knew that myself of course.
Luckily I never felt it excluded audiences that didn't have an encyclopedic knowledge of the Marvel universe but for those that are there were obviously a few welcome nods.

soonforgotten wrote:That's kind of weird then. How old was he meant to be there, 30? If The Avengers takes place 70 years later, that means he was born 100 years prior. So how old was he when he had Tony? Because Tony can't be meant to be more than mid 40s at oldest for The Avengers, right?
Exactly. Howard Stark would've been around 28 in this movie, and this is 1942. Tony Stark is about 45 in "Iron Man", and that takes place in 2008. So that means Tony was born in 1963, when Howard would've been 49. So it's not that far fetched.

Thanks to Weirdy for saving me 2 seats as though I got there very early, I had to wait for my friend, so I went in about 6:20ish which gave me no time to say hi to my fmuk "girlfriends" at the back row (no doubt thats where they were ;) ). I even had more 3d-2d glasses to give away to them....which by the way works a f**king treat once again. I gave to Weirdy and he said it was far better to watch CA in as he swapped between both 3d and 2d. My friend also was very pleased with the 3d to 2d glasses too. TheyShallNowCallMeMr2DGlass.

Anyway, the film was thoroughly enjoyable. Even though there are different directors for each of these recent Marvel films, the sense of fun and tone is maintained. With CA, there is an added sense of Indy WW2 type of adventure and a dose of cheesy upper lip gun-ho-ness. There is a bit Sky Captain vibe in this too. Though a chunk of the romance dialogue is pretty dire...but what do we expect from a film called Captain America?!

This is the key character of the forthcoming Avengers movie and I couldnt be happier with the way he is introduced. Well actually I could be happier but this is pretty good enough. So far every Marvel movie in this "pre Avengers" series have been well produced but some are better than others and I would rate them in this sequence (Best first)

Iron Man
Thor
Iron Man 2
Captain America
Incredible Hulk

I place CA as 4th favourite because the flaws are mostly in its dialogue. It falls very short of the standard set by Iron Man and Thor (and those are not exactly shakespeare either). But that is compensated for its energy and flow. Hugo Weaving (who's voice is surely the voice of god, isnt it?) steals every damn scene he is in. He can make the crappiest dialogue sound like shakespeare. Tommy Lee Jones was great to see and in a role he's played a gazillion times but was born to play. The ending was rather abrupt though. CA himself was suitably goody goody which will play off nicely against the obnoxious characters of Iron Man and Thor in the forthcoming Avengers movie.

I expected an end credit sequence which has become a story arc of itself spanning all of the Marvel pre Avenger movies. But the special surprise that followed AFTER the end credit sequence got me very excited.

Roll on Avengers...cant wait.

7.5/10

Oh I completely forgot. Mention of the motorbike chase reminded me that they included a Wilhelm Scream. Sure it's a little over-used nowadays but still quite satisfying when you spot one. Can take you out of the film you're watching a little I guess, but still a nice touch.
