The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus

Plot of the movie:
"In the present day, immortal 1,000-year-old Doctor Parnassus (Christopher Plummer) leads a travelling theatre troupe that offers audience members a chance to go beyond reality through a magical mirror in his possession. Members of the troupe include a sleight of hand expert, Anton (Andrew Garfield), and a dwarf, Percy (Verne Troyer), Parnassus had been able to guide the imagination of others through a deal with the Devil (Waits), who now comes to collect on the arrangement, targeting the doctor's daughter (Lily Cole). The troupe, which is joined by a mysterious outsider named Tony (portrayed by Heath Ledger, Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and Colin Farrell), embark through parallel worlds to rescue the girl."

The UK release for the film was due to release on 6 June 2009 but pushed back to 16 October 2009 due to the successful premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.

This film looks awesome - and what a cast! I'm going to see this one! o/

There are lots of competitions for the premiere of this film, but I have been searching in vain for free preview tickets. I'd rather like to see this one. I saw the trailer on the big screen recently - it is so definitely Gilliam's work - unmistakable. It also reminded me of Monty Python - his graphics.

There's a man who lives in my area who looks just like Terry Gilliam. I kept staring at him at the bus stop (eventually after the third time I convinced myself that it couldn't be Gilliam). The guy must have thought I was crazy or interested in him, for sure. :shifty:

I almost thought for a minute you said you saw the preview last night! Had to reread it twice to process it properly!

Definitely fingers crossed for this one. :cross:

Maybe it was him. You could have asked where the hell is Eric Idle these days. Or maybe "Loved Baron Maunchausen but could you tell me what the heck happened at the end?" ;)

Terry Gilliam is a master of surreal films. Have been a fan of his ever since I saw Time Bandits as a kid. But he has a history of bad luck hitting his productions and a lack of faith from studios. Doctor Parnassus was one of them of course with the demise of his main star before completing his role. But he found an ingenious way to complete Ledger's role, and thats where Depp, Farell, and Law stepped in as a tribute to Ledger (they didnt get pa*d for it, I think). Sounds impossible to make this work but in the context of the story, it apparently works! The visuals in the trailer actually reminds me of Baron Maunchausen!

I am so so looking forward to seeing this film!
