lol....I haven't even seen hp 7 part I!
However it's probably going to be a brilliant flawed film. If it was a sure fire film for awards season they would never release it in Sept...

Oh really interesting....

It's probably too early to tell who's even in the running yet, apart from just listing the usual suspects like Clint, Meryl etc.

Is there a film that can be compared to this in order to give people an idea if they are likely to enjoy TTSS?

I can't think of any contemporary films in all honesty that draw comparisons.
For me the cast list made it a must see. And the trailer.

David, if you are comparing it to that, I am definitely not going!

Fuckin' go. Seriously.
102 Different free films seen in 2010 plus 2 repeat viewings and a few tv show screenings... not too shabby. Thanks to everyone for their contributions here.

Some (including perhaps Beate?) may disagree, but the closest comparison I can think of in recent years is with The Lives Of Others. But good as it is, TTSS isn't quite as good in my opinion; TLOO was a real stand-out. Also, I did feel huge emotional engagement with the main character in the earlier film whereas with TTSS, as has been pointed out, you don't know the background or motivation of the characters which might be a drawback for some.

The Lives Of Others remains one of the best films I've ever seen.

That's correct, that's the sole reason they delayed the US release.
