I don't know why they think they need these celebs to switch on the lights (& p*y them £15 000 to do so, as my local council gave to Stacey Solomon though she did sing 4 songs!)

It used to be great for a local child (usually one who'd had a hard time in life) to be allowed to switch them on. They did it for the thrill and not £15 000.

I think there should be a campaign next year to not p*y these celebs(!?!) to switch on the Christams Lights!

I agree with the sentiment, but it's all about money, isn't it? Local traders will want celebs because they think celebs attract more customers.

Last year we had Olly Murs who was "shamed by the amount of bad local press" into donating his £15 000 to local charities.

I think they should definitely giver their p*y to charity, man that's almost as much as I make in a full year!

Or they can have an auction for people to bid on turning on the lights, highest bidder wins and money goes to charity?

This year the Regent Street Christmas lights switching on event celebrates the start of the festive season in true West End style and also looks forward to the launch of the new film, Arthur Christmas. Actors Bill Nighy and Ashley Jensen will be helping to turn on the lights above the famous street and kickstart the festive season in grand style, while music fans can look forward to special performances from Kelly Clarkson, Matt Cardle and the cast of West End music Thriller. The West End Gospel Choir will also be singing at the launch event.
