I was in the same boat! I had a job, left it went to uni came away with 2 degrees and in the middle of a recession!! awful timing.lisapip wrote:'you are over qualified for the simple jobs and under qualified for all the others'...
or age for the job....looking for young people to p*y less..................
partner has had that trouble for 2 years and about 6 months.
dose about 25 plus jobs a week.
last week 36 plus applied for,he will be lucky if one replys.
needs a full time job,not part time or as and when....alot of factory are going that way to save money...
or 30 hours under....
I had the luck of sitting with my mum on a train the other week listening to people going through CVs and giving all the reasons why they werent right for the job. None of them would have struggled to do the job, all quite clearly capable but all over qualified or had been working in an area where there was a bit of a thrill (fashion was the main one they decided she wouldnt be good as no enough "buzz".
at least then we got to hear it first hand as to why I and so many others were having a hard time. I couldnt even get a shop job or in a supermarket, they didn't want to know.
You're also totally right there on the age thing! Don't the government realise that they have two rules that work against each other. One that says you're not allowed to ask the age of the applicant the other that tells them they will be better off if they employ younger people due to the lower rate of minimum wage.
it is a devastating position to be in

BUT!! eventually even though it feels like never, something will happen if people keep trying.
