The Artist
I know there's a LFF thread, but this deserves it's own thread and is a definite Oscar contender.
The gala screening was held last night with the two French leads in attendance as well as Harvey Weinstein, who is a big man (and left with a pretty young thing about 3 times smaller than him). He introduced the film with an anecdote about how he b*ght the rights and was called to justify it to his company's COO before bringing on the producer and cast members. It ran for awhile and meant it'd be impossible for me to make it in time for PA3, but oh well.
So the film: It is black and white and silent. And it totally, utterly works. A true joy to watch.

Thanks again to hope_prince for passing the tickets to this along to me.

102 Different free films seen in 2010 plus 2 repeat viewings and a few tv show screenings... not too shabby. Thanks to everyone for their contributions here.

I really adore this. Will win or at least gets nominated for best picture this year.
Definitely one of the better (acted) films I've seen this year.
Its really inspiring and creative. 10/10

Re: The Artist
After his win at Cannes, I am guessing/hoping Jean Dujardin will bag an Oscar nomination as well!

Re: The Artist
I'm in France currently and went to see it - it's really, really good, not just for its novelty value (I went on the premise of it being something very different) but also just for itself. The plot's a bit bizarre (hey, it's French...) but good all the same, and the music is brilliant. Definitely recommend it!
