Re: Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked
As I tweeted earlier, the less said about chipmunks squeaking Lady Gaga songs the better, but I guess a bit more detail is in order.
We arrived around 9.40am, having thought that it would start at 10am but unfortunately I was told that the starting time was 10.30am. Wasn't happy as it would make it very tight to hop over to the Apollo for the showcase films, but at least it gave plenty of time to hog croissants and muffins. You could have overlooked them in a panic attack resulting from kids overload but I found a shortcut from the entrance on the left near to the toilets that led to the food on offer with minimum fuss and interruption. We also grabbed great seats high up in the very last row and had no one immediately in front and at least 4 seats between me and the next person to the right. Grabbed aisle seats for a quick getaway. There were plenty of small kids crying throughout (no doubt because of the bad acting) but up there with ear plugs in it was sufferable. I was stupidly disappointed to be told that it wouldn't be in 3D as I have come to expect it, even though I don't even like it. Paradox, much?
I haven't figured out yet what's amusing about animated chipmunks speaking as if on helium, running around in a world that isn't animated. I thank my lucky stars that I never had to endure the earlier films, even though it might have helped in identifying who was who and what role they play. The chubby chipmunk (Theo?) was cute, the rest forgettable. The whole story is in the title already. Wish they would have stayed shipwrecked, sorry, chipwrecked forever. Remarkable also how a woman stranded on a volcanic island for 8 or 9 years can still look so immacutely turned out, but the Castaway references (basketball with face on it) were just embarrassing.
4/10 is all I can give this poor excuse of a movie.
We were the first ones out while they were still squeaking.
1 down, 3 to go.

Re: Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked
Must say this was the weakest film of the 3, non existent story, the Chipmunks were in high school in the last film and were more like primary school age in this one, so it didn't really make sense, not that talking chipmunks make much sense anyway!
Kids are fans of the previous films, especially the second one and they did enjoy this, I know the squeaky singing isn't for everyone but they liked it, especially my daughter as she loves Katy Perry & Lady Gaga, she was singing along (sorry if that was you sitting next to us). There are plenty of better children's/family films out at the moment though.

Beate and David; I know you guys really dislike this movie but seriously you should watch the 1st one! It's SO much better and puts some of the things that are considered canon in this world in perspective. I personally loved the second movie too, but I admit that was primarily for the adorable Toby as played by Zac Levi.

My Mum (the Natwest Bank Account Holder) took my three kids to see this film this morning and the feedback I am getting from them all is that the film was excellent and even better than the first two. Really wish I could have seen it. I will see it when it appears at kids film club in the New Year.

I do agree the first and second film are a lot better, kids watch the second one quite often as its on the Sky on demand list and it's not one of the ones I react with 'oh no, not that again, what about......' but if you are not fans of pop music sang on helium they probably won't be for you either, for some reason kids seem to think that it's great though.canadian_turtle wrote:Beate and David; I know you guys really dislike this movie but seriously you should watch the 1st one! Re: Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked
I got to Shep Bush at 10.30, place near enough deserted. anyway my mates were on their way and I hung around realising that everyone was showing the bank cards
Panic mode as I didn't have anything on me. I ended up sidling over to the manager and started talkiing to him then mentioned I forgot my card, luckily he was in a good mood so agreed we could come in as I still had the print out. BIG MISTAKE
I've never seen one of these films and I know I wouldn't enjoy it but I didn't expect it to be so dire. Even Yogi Bear was better. I couldn't even sleep with the relentless noise and those high pitched voices. What a nightmare indeed. It actually calmed down abit in the Island sequence but I really wish we'd not been allowed in, and taken my mates and their son to Happy Feet.
2/10 and that's for the lack of 3D and the 'press on' nails joke

Re: Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked
I had my friends and their kids with me (I have two rbs accounts) and the girls loved it. All of them had seen the first two and all under 9. I thought it was perfectly fine, not any worse than the first two, maybe the story wasn't as strong but they sang more songs. For any children under 10 I'd say it was good. 8/10 from the girls Loved Simon and his alter ego.
