Sex-addicted Michael Fassbender showing his "big gun" didn't make this movie any more interesting.
Slow, slow soooo slow... I would have cut half of it.
I couldn't believe she actually has sung the whole song! When she was singing (awfully long time) I had a feeling that Steve McQueen was desperately trying to increase the length of this movie.

That's really upsetting to hear, I'm so excited to catch it again, yes it's slow, but it's about the silent bond between humans, or lack-thereof in some parts. I found it heartbreaking, stone cold, dead, haunted silence for 10 minutes after the final frames way back when, but I do understand all your reactions to it, I had that problem with Hunger.

I hated Hunger. I knew I would hate Shame. We're all different of course, but I'm not too suprised about these reactions.

wow. this did not go down well (mostly). i was really gutted i had to choose between this and the artist. i just came to find out what i had missed. i did it with a flip of a coin and it seems i chose well: the artist was really good.

Saw this last night in Wimbledon. The film was so slow that watching paint dry would have been more entertaining. I really admire Carey Mulligan as an actor, however in this her role was that of a night club singer - but when she sang a very slow version of New York, New York it went on and on and on - did we really need the whole song?. Likewise Michael Fassbender played her brother - a perverted sex addict, who, in order to relieve his sexual frustration went for a run - but did we really need to see the whole run. The script of this movie would probably have filled no more than half an hour - but it was padded out with long lingering shots which stretched the film to about one and a half hours - which I would say was about 90 minutes too long. I have never walked out of a movie before, as I believe to do so is distracting for the rest of the audience, however had I been sitting at the end of a row, I would have done just that. There was virtually no plot, there was very little character development, meaningless dialogue and far too much gratuitous nudity. I really loathed the film. Avoid at all costs.

I agree. I thought that song was far too long and pretentious. Added nothing to an otherwise very slow and plodding film.

I'd say it was pants (except that nobody had any on for any length of time)!

I think The Guardian readers present were stunned into silence - all walked out at the end without so much as a word. Lol.

There were two girls outside the screen saying 'Well that Was Crap'
preferred locations Shepherds Bush, Westfield, Notting Hill, Central London, Wimbledon, Islington, Wandsworth thanks

I watch this last night and luckily was aware of the storyline etc. before I went in. I think what was missing from the film was a back story really. What went on in the Michael Fassbender character's life before he became the sex addict.

Pants sums it up pretty well.

i didn't like this - didn't expect to, but did expect to appreciate it for what it was - but no, didn't.

I thought Hunger was a fantastic film. This I thought was hammed up and unconvincing.

It was slow and I appreciated why in part but not in all of it. Saw the ending coming after an hour, shame it didn't end then.

Edinburgh was only about 20% full.
