Well at the risk of repeating what's been said already...
I really enjoyed the movie, it was sweet and captivating (although it dod slow down a bit in the middle). Some people left the cinema after 10 minutes, their loss!
I'd never seen a silent movie before so the amount of humour and emotion that the movie conveyed without sound is truly astonishing to me.
Glad it won some awards, they are well deserved.

OH hated it so much it is her worst film of the year. I thought it was so so. I guess it is cos I find it hard to focus fully for the length of the film even though it was humorous at times or sad. My first silent french film....well till right at the end.

Ours was a "typical" SFF audience and no-one walked out, though I was expecting it! So quiet...and no popcorn munching, bags rustling, though quite a lot of slurping of individual wine bottles around me in Exeter!

I am speaking affordable super 8 (from Ebay?)... I am feeling like getting my super 8 projector out again!
Buster Keaton: The Haunted House, One Week, The Paleface... He's a genius.
He made a few talking films too, I haven't seen them yet.

When he speaks to her there's a movie poster in the background that says "The Thief Who Stole Her Heart" (the wording my not be exact) and then when he exits the auction house the marque says "Lonely Star" as he walks down the street. Brilliantly done.

i also noticed little the background touches - the 'thief of her heart' really made me smile. i noticed one of the subsidiary headlines in a newspaper also alluded to the plot. but it was on screen so briefly, and i struggled to read it and the main headline. i suspect that there many other very clever little bits for the observant viewer.
Yeah I think all the film titles in the background were referencing the story, when he finally went to see a talkie it was 'Guardian Angel'

and the reviewer from the Telegraph just tweeted a link to this Degas picture

Lovely! Reminds me of how much I enjoyed the music of the film too, I have to check if they released a score.

I am most definitely getting that soundtrack too :) I am surprised that no Bernard Hermann is listed, though. One stand out cue was definitely from Vertigo. I recognised a few cues from other films too.

I think that 6 minute featurette, as much as I love watching it, gives too much of the story away and certainly ruins a little sweet surprise at the end of the movie...but I guess that particular spoiler is inevitable once people know more about the movie. I am glad I did not know much at all about the background for this film when I watched it.
