I agree with lots thats been said about the humour, great characters and storyline. Was lovely to see a film that captured a cross section of society's aging population views about the aging process. The streets, hustle and bustle of the city and seeing inside these call centres brought the whole film to a very real level.
Metaphorically, Maggie Mmiths character was a perfect example of how some older people must feel useless and discarded by a younger, skilled generation. I applauded when she got the opportunity to use her skills again.
9/10 from me

Slowly recovering from a really bad week and getting back on my writing feet.
Here's my review:

Less impressed than most of you lot seem to have been.
102 Different free films seen in 2010 plus 2 repeat viewings and a few tv show screenings... not too shabby. Thanks to everyone for their contributions here.

First solid movie of the year for me. Exceptional performances from everyone, particularly Dames Judi Dench and Maggie Smith.
Also nice to see Dev Patel a little more energetic than his utterly boring performance in "Last Airbender". Did anybody else think his flame resembled Freida Pinto?
Overall, a definite

Saw this with an older crowd this evening since it was a Classic FM screening.
Film was excellent. Solid cast and for me it didn't feel rushed trying to work out the development of each character. Some laugh out moments especially since the audience were around the same age as the cast.

A packed Edinburgh tonight, largely full of silver surfers. their pre-film chat was fantastic, really passed the time. Interesting to hear their views on multi-plex cinemas!
The film, I wasn't looking forward and nearly didn't go and if I'd missed it thought it wouldn't really matter. The trailer and the interview with Graham Norton really put me off watching.
So glad I didn't trust my own instincts and actually went to see it.
I really enjoyed this. Great acting all round. They really did morph into their characters.
I think that's a film that would be better in 4D - to get the smells of India would have just been the icing on the cake.

Did anyone else get a pack of seeds tonight? when I arrived they were handing them to people to showed their ticket it's got a version of the film poster on the front but called "The Best Exotic Marigold Seeds" (although I would have much preferred some Hobnobs!). Then the security guards took our tickets of us at the actual screen and said just the ticket you keep the seeds, and then as the couple ahead were walking away he shouted after them "but don't eat the seeds!"

I think they must have run out as later people coming into the screen didn't appear to be carrying them.
I thought the film was ok but didn't like it as much as others. I just didn't go deeply enough into anyone's story, but then that would have made the film too long. I think they should have followed through the eyes of just one person's with snippets of the other's stories as they saw them. Loved the shots of India and the hotel but even then they never even gave a tour of the hotel so it was hard to work out how many courtyards and rooms there were, I would have loved one sweeping tour following someone around, or from above or something.

Ha ha I got some seeds in the goody bag at the after party (after the premiere). I did think it was kind of random.
