Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief
Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief
It's the 21st century, but the gods of Mount Olympus and assorted monsters have walked out of the pages of high school student Percy Jackson's Greek mythology texts and into his life. And they're not happy: Zeus' lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect. Even more troubling is the sudden disappearance of Percy's mother. As Percy finds himself caught between angry and battling gods, he and his friends embark on a cross-country adventure to catch the true lightning thief, save Percy's mom, and unravel a mystery more powerful than the gods themselves. (Written by 20th Century Fox)

It's based on a hugely popular series of children's fantasy books, stars a young male teenager with brown hair who finds out he is no normal teenager, and is in fact imbued with magical powers. He enters a secret fantasy world to find he has been destined for greatness all his life. Sound familiar?
But the movie isn't the latest Harry Potter film. No, it's 'Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief' – a fantasy epic due out early next year based on the popular books by Rick Riordan – himself a Harry Potter fan.
However, the trailer has upset some Harry Potter fans who claim that the 20th Century Fox movie looks similar to the teen wizard's adventures.
(Time will tell. There's plenty of room for more films of this type. They didn't stop with one Western, one spy film, did they? The box office returns will make it clear if the public want it or not.)

I saw the trailer for this today and I thought it looked quite good. Definitely will be giving this a try (providing it's free.

I'd rather watch Benjamin Sniddlegrass And The Cauldron Of Penguins.

Re: Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief
I saw this entertaining romp on Thursday at Cineworld, Castleford. Spanner and I had a grand day out meeting up with Cortone, PeteYork and Steve9872. Unfortunately Allsinging had other commitments and was unable to join us. (We'll catch up next time
)
After a wonderful Chinese Buffet (all you can eat £6), we decided to see Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, as it was the only film that we had all not seen. It was fairly formulaic, and although there were no big surprises, it was an exciting film in many respects. I enjoyed the references to Greek gods, myths and legends. Percy has learned that his real father is Poseidon, god of the sea, which means Percy is a demigod - half human, half god. He has tremendous powers, like sitting underwater for ages without drowning - do not try this in your local swimming pool! Uma Thurman looked er.... different... with a headful of snakes - she was a great Medusa, and Pierce Brosnan was an unlikely centaur. Brandon T. Jackson was hilarious as Grover, Percy's best friend and protector. He had some of the best lines in the film.
The film would appeal to children and adults alike who enjoy the Harry Potter movies. I believe that this film is based on a series of children's books, and am wondering whether there will be a sequel....
7/10 from me, and thanks to Steve9872 for sharing his Toberlone with me - yum.

Re: Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief
Saw this at sheffield cineworld and thoroughly enjoyed. It's kind of Clash of the Titans for teenagers. Agree that Brandon T Jackson made the film and would definitely recommend if you're into your fantasy films, a worthwhile addition.
