I think there was another film this week at Selby - was it The Reader?
Allsinging, can you let us all know how this went? I think many of us want to keep up with this project.
The Reader was a less obvious one to add to the list than Mamma Mia and Slumdog Millionaire, I think it is a great film. (But harrowing.)
How did it go? I hope the weather did not put a dampener on things. Your area is always really windy - but usually sunnier - than where I live.
Any more photos? :-)

Yes, please keep us updated with any further developments. How's it going?
Re: Good Luck Selby Community Cinema
I'd like to know the latest, too, please, when one of you hard-pressed organisers has time. This must have been your 3rd performance now?

Re: Good Luck Selby Community Cinema
Hi everyone I haven’t talked too much about Selby Globe Community Cinema as I did a lot of chatting setting the thing up (sorry whittled on for ages
) and didn't want to take advantage.
I didn’t see you post Cortone (opps) but yes The Reader was on November the 16th. When planning we worked on sales of 50 (of total seating of 120) for Slumdog and The Reader as they are not your allsinginganddancing ones…we actually sold 84 and 89 so really pleased with both.
Our next film is Grease Sing-along on the 14th of December but that sold out within 2 weeks (yah!) so added another night on the 15th and that’s going really well.
Our latest news is that we received sponsorship from Frankie & Bennies for £1200 plus 3 meals to add to free tickets we put in the local paper each month. As we are offering free tickets the local press allow us to write our own reviews and to advertise the monthly film and are kind enough to print both free each month. Fingers crossed our new projector will be with us soon..it’s a Panasonic 4000 which is not only very good but lovely and shinny too
.
I’ve been asked to do an evening screening about mining in Yorkshire so I’m busy working with the British Film Institute's National Archive finding film so that’s keeping me busy at the moment.
Our second lot of screenings start in January these are the older films…here’s the rough schedule
January – It’s a wonderful life – this is advertised as our pilot for January 21st
To be confirmed/:
February - Some Like it Hot
March - The Lavender Hill
April - Singing in the Rain
May – Safety Last (1923) - Harold Lloyd’s most famous picture, featuring the heart-stopping scene where Lloyd hangs from a skyscraper by the hands of a clock. With short films in support
June – Casablanca
July - His girl Friday Cary Grant
August - Brief Encounter
The idea is to show a short Pathe new reel of the year of the film first then the main feature.
So if you are around come and join us on the 15th for a good sing song…after sing-along Mamma Mia in September I couldn’t talk for a few days and that was from laughing
