The Girlfriend Experience
The Girlfriend Experience
Well we saw this tonight at Panton Street and the only positive thing to say about it is that at least it's short. It is dreadful. Avoid like the plague. It is a very boring story about an escort (call girl) and you really could not care less about her or her awful boyfriend or anyone else in the film. My husband says it was a boring story about a lot of uninteresting people. The script was non-existent. Need I say more?
Panton Street had a guest list and only asked for our name -- no ID tonight.

Re: The Girlfriend Experience
Yep, I was there too but I really enjoyed it.
I thought it was a frank portrait of how an escort/prostitute deals with personal relationships. Though it's beyond me how a guy can be ok with his other half having sex with other people every day.
The one thing that was slightly annoying, again, was that the film
stopped suddenly, leaving you to make your own mind up about the ending.
Lots of films seem to be doing this recently and i'm not sure I like it.

Re: The Girlfriend Experience
I saw this a couple of weeks ago at the BFI and I thought it was so bad, I didn't bother to even write a review then. It's just tedious....
It was done recently as a play at the Young Vic, which was much much better and funnier. Watching this film, you can't help but wonder whats the point? Its a theatrical piece and not a cinematic one. There are only a few scenes, some in the bedroom, some in a cafe, back in another bed room, to the gym, back to the cafe, then bedroom....you get my drift.... The whole sub-plot with the escort's boyfriend in the gym seems like it was tacked on to add more time to a relatively short film.
I thought all the cutting backwards and forwards between scenes was unnecessarily pretentious. It's a drama, not some thriller or mystery like The Usual suspects, Memento! I like quiet introspective films, esp Steven Soderbergh's Solaris but definitely not this one. I didn't even stay for the Q&A with Sasha Grey (the escort "character"). 2/10 for me

Re: The Girlfriend Experience
Well I certainly wasn't going to stick around and ask how much do you charge per hour?

Re: The Girlfriend Experience
Wasn't it included in the BFI ticket price?!
