My friend has kindly given me a World Book Night copy of Pride and Prejudice! I am so touched by her thoughtfulness. It's one of my favourite books.

I found out a mere few hours too late yesterday that my favourite chick-lit author (Lindsey Kelk) was in London for signings and an awesome launch event, so gutted People even got loads of awesome freebies, including an "I Heart London" (title of her latest book) travel card holder, which I SO want!

I wish there was some handy calendar online to check these things, but for as far as I'm aware th eonly options are checking calendars of individual book stores and specific authors (though this one doesn't have a calendar on her site).

I did get to see one of my favourite YA authors, Rachel Caine, a few weeks ago at a fab event at Foyles that included a great talk before the signing and some cool freebies. Write-up + photos:

Hey everybody - I'm new around here so just wandering about getting a feel of the place. WBN sounds like a fantastic idea; I'm guessing I was under a rock to have missed that. Never mind, safe to assume there will be another next year?? I was at the Edinburgh Book Festival a couple of years ago and sat in on a reading by one of my favourite authors, Diana Gabaldon (stone circles and chick time travel) who then signed my book!! Also went to a reading by JK Rowling and got 2 books signed by her too. My only claims to fame!!!!!!

After being dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century bookwise, I've decided the Kindle I got for Christmas is worth its weight in gold. I'm downloading a much larger range of reading material than I ever read before - all those freebies again Currently reading The Hunger Games (real book) - again, a little behind the crowd but loving it!

Excellent article by Jay McInerney that attempts to get to the heart of The Great Gatsby. Essential reading for fans of the novel (in my opinion one of the finest ever American novels) but a SPOILER warning for those that haven't as the end of the book is covered. So those interested in reading it or just interested in seeing Baz Lurhmann's adaptation should read at their own risk. Then everyone should go and see Gatz which I saw on Saturday. Surprisingly the 8hr+ running time passed pretty painlessly thanks to a wonderfully staged and played production that has a decent amount of humour and inventiveness to keep things interesting. A 1hr 30 min interval halfway definitely helped too. Highly recommended as is the novel.
