Planet 51

#1 Post by Beate » Fri Dec 04, 2009 8:50 pm

American astronaut Captain Charles "Chuck" Baker lands on Planet 51 thinking he's the first person to step foot on it. To his surprise, he finds that this planet is inhabited by little green people who are happily living in a white picket fence world, and whose only fear is that it will be overrun by alien invaders...like Chuck!

We saw this today with my last Cineworld voucher - need to do Tesco clubcard vouchers from now on! Embarrassingly, I asked for tickets to "Area 51" at the till! :giggle:

It 's your average animated film with a few nice ideas. The OH loved it, but then he is a big kid himself! Wish I had gone to see Me and Orson Welles instead now - could watch this at the Picturehouse, but am running out of vouchers!

6/10

I saw this today, I would like to give a 6 out of 10 too, but it's a good 6 out of 10. I was very impressed with the animation coming from a european animation studio. I think we should all be supporting films like this, considering most animated films coming from the USA or Japan. It had a quite slick "hollywood" feel to it. The reason it's only a 6 is more a script thing, it's quite formulaic. It copies from Wall-E, bits from Singing in the Rain and more importantly its basically ET with the roles reversed (probably took a film exec 5 mins to come up with such an idea). Nevertheless it's an enjoyable family film and I would recommend families to go and watch it over this christmas.

I thought the storyline really let this film down, but I agree that the animation which was superb. I have seen much better animated films than this in 2009 (UP was my favourite) so was a bit disappointed with a storyline that never reallly went anywhere, would give it 4/10. All the kids in the cinema seemed to be getting bored, I dont think there were enough funny parts to keep the kids entertained. I dont recall laughing out loud to this film once.

The "green alien" look kept remainding me of Shrek.
