Re: Safety Not Guaranteed
We were there at 5.20pm and had to show ID at the box office when collecting the tickets so was quite surprised that jeancomp had managed to get my OH's tickets without any ID, but she's a clever lady. We had to wait forever to be let to the screen and then we had to queue again in front of it until past 6pm, which is when it should have started. It finally started around 6.20pm, with quite a few empty seats left, and after a short introduction by the director. Cinefila1 raced in shortly before it was starting but she had lost her OH who I think went to Jeff Who Lives at Home instead, which was on at the same venue at 7pm.
The film was wonderfully quirky, with excentric characters and a funny (and semi-true) story. I also liked the soundtrack a lot and I am not one to particularly notice music in a film usually. The ending was suitably sci-fi and the director admitted afterwards that he had changed it 2 weeks before Sundance but after having been accepted to show it here, so had to ring them and inform them of the changes. In essence this is a love story though between two characters that don't really fit in anywhere (Aubrey Plaza and Mark Duplass). The sidekicks were good too but I could have clouted the Jeff character when he announced that "time has not been kind" to his former girlfriend, who I thought was very beautiful - not fat but curvacious and really too good for him anyway.
We got a Q&A with the director Colin Trevorrov afterwards whose micro at first didn't work. We could never hear the questions either but learned that the film had been made in 24 days with an amazingly low budget of £500,000. I think that's unreal, and the film deserves a wider audience. OH desperately needed the loo though and when the director started rambling, I am afraid we left and had a meal at Pizza Express.
We then chose the worst possible moment to leave the restaurant as we got into a melee of excitable young black girls leaving the IndigO2 who all suddenly started screaming and running towards the dome exit and in the process nearly knocked us over. Some boyband?
8.5/10

Re: Safety Not Guaranteed
Thanks to Beate we got to see this charming, witty, well-scripted and well-acted film. I agree about the soundtrack which usually passes me by too. Lovely to see Beate and OH and say hi to cinefila1.

May I ask where you got these tickets? Didn't see any codes on the forum, just wondering if I'm missing out on some hidden section somewhere!!
Thanks. :)
Thanks. :)

Re: Safety Not Guaranteed
It was a special US Embassy in partnership with Sundance screening and I managed to get a few tickets that needed to be collected at the venue.

Re: Safety Not Guaranteed
My kind of film, a well-paced, quirky, rom-com with a sci-fi element.
The music was lovely & in particular the scene with Kenneth & the zither.
I really enjoyed the Q&A as well, it was kind of nice that this was based partially on a true story.

Re: Safety Not Guaranteed
I was also at the screening on Monday, and must say i really, really enjoyed it. The Q and A was the icing on the cake for what was a really beautiful film, I'm glad Aubrey Plaza is finally getting the roles she deserves! I've done a review below, check it out
