Perhaps those who hoard might like to do a 'cash in the attic" kinda of thing and sell the stuff which you really don't need anymore. My dad is a hoarder and so it kinda of rub on me. Though when I unofficially move in with the OH I only took my clothes and some other stuff and left the rest behind including my pension plan of my collection of monopoly boards. Though I should really take them as they do take a lot of space.

OH is a big hoarder and we managed to get rid of a lot of stuff including a guitar and keyboard. When OH moved into the flat everything was in boxes so we managed to make the spare room an actual spare room. And the spare cupboard OH used for putting everything that didn't have a place got chucked into that. Planned to learn the musical instruments but never got round to it so we donated both to a youth group. Also plenty of paperwork and bills so managed to let OH keep the last three years worth of stuff. That was about 18 months ago and we do need space for wedding stuff so told OH again to start gutting the flat again. I refuse to official move in if it isn't gutted. OH does like making piles of stuff. Random piles of things in rooms.

There's a programme on Channel 4 tonight at 9 o'clock - The Hoarder Next Door. I think a few of us should have a look at it and compare notes!! :rofl2:

Maybe I should look out for a certain member from Manchester..........

God I love this thread!

I'm a recovering hoarder, although I am taking a break from recovering. I recently got rid of a bunch of clothes (gave them away as they were nearly new and I'm not going to fit into them again...) and heaps of documents (I shredded for a whole day). Recycling men were not impressed with the many bin liners of shredding!

I hoard lots of things, but it's not as bad as some - mostly I hate getting rid of clothes and books. I've tried selling books but am trying to bring myself to give them away. I totally understand why people would want to keep them to re-read; that's half the fun! I stupidly decided to b*y all the books of a few authors a good few years back and now doubt I'd read them again. Giving them away just makes me cringe at the money I spent on them! Selling them is pointless as it's hardly worth the effort - there are so many of the same books on book selling sites etc... I'll have to think of the good karma.

I also save bubble wrap, padded envelopes etc, but because we use them often and they're soooo expensive! Waste not, want not! I am sooooo much better than I used to be. We only have a small-ish flat and apart from a few piles of paper (and OH's desk!) it's all neat and tidy. We're moving in a couple of weeks, so expect I'll chuck some more stuff out... And as for saving things for best, I won't let our drunken friends near our crystal wine glasses - that's sensible though, isn't it???
