I know! #IAmDefinitelySeeingThis
where is your review? I read a few now and basically we all seem to mainly blame the awful screenplay! It's a shame it's gorgeous apart from this "small" detail!

edit: and now that I see who wrote it I am less surprised!
I still haven't completely figured out the Lost finale, subplots and shit

Not really seen much of Lindelof's work, but heard a lot of Lost has similar elements/issues.

Well I am sitting on the fence with my opinion of this. I didn't think it was amazing but neither do I think it was that bad. It was OK.

It does feel like a lot of ideas cobbled together, not all of them lead to a satisfactorily conclusion, which means there are a lot of plot threads left unexplained.

I must admit that I am glad I saw this at the Empire as a film like this really must be seen on a giant screen. The sound was deafening. It was so loud that some of the dialogue was indistinguishable and I could feel my seat vibrating.

Since the story has quite a long set up and the ending feels a bit clumsy, the film's main strength is that it is visually stunning. The 3D was put to good use here. The special effects are impressive although it seems a bit random that one character is given prosthetics that look cartoonish.

6.5/10

I find that the Empire is always like this - for this reason its not my favourite cinema. A lot of echo

Grrr. Only just came home because the DLR got suspended while we were on it and we had to take a long way round it. Now I have missed every bloody TV programme and am utterly hungry so review will have to wait.

I would be happy to know why in every science fiction film the extra terrestrial is the enemy ? It's always angry, always destruictive, with the exception of ET which was more of a fable than anything. Everything that is about the future and science suffers from rabies...and disgustingly slimie... boring!

Arrived early, around 6.10pm and had to sign in at reception. The security guard/receptionist said apologetically that we still had time to go to Tesco's as there wouldn't be much on offer, "just a few crisps and beers", and when I told him that that's more than we usually get at screenings, he looked genuinely shocked. Around 6.30pm we were let through to the screening room and handed bulky 3D glasses. There were indeed some refreshments and I proceeded to fill some nibbles into a plastic cup for ease of use. Got good seats in the back row but unfortunately had a tall person in front of me. Saw canadian_turtle, pcrock and valda and kept seats for MariaLionza.

We got a short speech from some zeebox executive about his company which is only a few months old. He told us that the reason for choosing Prometheus for their first screening is that he has a connection to Ridley Scott (something about him having made a film and Scott liking it). They might be doing more screening and other comps in the future.

The film - well it started innocently enough and bumbled along nicely, until BANG we get the slimy alien things and it gets a bit nasty, with people dying in horrible ways, a caesarean being administered and generally yukky mayhem ensuing. I had to close my eyes at some points during the film and I could hear the people around me going "EWWW!" Sad that none of the characters really got given much of a background which could have made them more interesting, and Charlize Theron played a nasty person once again. And what a waste of Idris Elba! Some ridiculous prosthetics dejavu from J. Edgar with Guy Pearce's character (who I recognized despite the horrible ageing make-up). They spend millions on CGI etc. but they can't age a person in a natural looking way? What's wrong with just casting an older actor?

There were more questions than answers at the end so all in all a bit disappointing. 6.5/10

Interesting the blogs/online chatter have been really negative, but the mainsteam press has been more positive on the film. Nice to see Duncan Jones supporting the film "Hoping Prometheus is a big enough hit to convince studios to take a risk on bigger budget, thoughtful sci-fi... I can wish, cant I?"
Technically brilliant, the opening sequence was breathtaking, there's wonderful use of 3D technology. I hope it wins a clutch of technical awards when the awards season arrives.
Is the script poor? I don't think so, the overall feel is very thoughtful and meaningful. Yes there's a few cringeworthy lines here and there, some of the secondary characters were not well written, but the overall look and feel of the film is top notch. It had quite a Solaris feel to the film. I would happily watch it again just for the technical brilliance 8/10
