I think that it's important that kids get involved in something for the Jubilee'cause one day they will be the old folk telling the stories on tv of what they did on the "old queen's" Diamond Jubilee . . . what we do gives them memories! So whether you are interested or not for yourself, consider our young people. Give them a memory worth telling!
My father talks about the plans & gifts for schoolchildren which were made for the coronation of Edward VIII . . . and then it didn't happen! This made an impact on him and it happened 76 years ago!

My daughter is too old now to bother, more interested in parties and friends now. Luckilly we lived in Portsmouth for the golden jubilee and she was in the fencing display, we tried to get a spot on the beach for the nelson reenactment but there was no spaces, not even an empty stone to sit on so we had to sit with the masses and the big screens on the common, but if you stood up you could see the ships with binoculars.

the street party was a bit of a damp squib as there were a lot of brats present as they enmassed at the community centre, she did a dance there
