I know Scott said that but from reviews I read that's a big misconception as it is the start of the franchise and everything that happens will eventually lead to the aliens/space jockey people know from Alien. And apparently Weyland was a known name already too (says the Alien n00b).

If you were a cynic (who, me?), it sounds like a money-making exercise, turn out 3 prequels till you eventuall arrive at the one that used to be the first in the franchise.

If the series is really very popular (I honestly have no idea, is it cult? Has it reached Star Wars status?) I can understand the fans need for a prequel and TPTB making one as there's a guaranteed audience for it. But 3 prequels really is too much. Particularly considering how shit this one was and I doubt they'll get the same hype/response on any prequels (sequels to this prequel) that could follow (IF they get to make them that is).

But the hype before release was so high that it had huge advance ticket sales (including all the screenings at BFI IMAX being sold out) and it will make a lot of money regardless. ;)

yeah but there's loads of other franchises of crap films that make loads of money, POTC, The Hangover, Twilight and Transformers etc...and they keep on making them.

I took my friend to see this and he thought it was crap apart from the effects/cinematography etc. (he said he couldn't get into it!)

I felt the story was poor but the cgi/scenery was ace. Even dozed off for a couple of brief moments.


Cinema was quiet as a mouse (guess cos 15 cert!)


(why is cinema so crap these days? - all mouth and no trousers for want of a better expression)

Is this film worth seeing on 3D or should I just go watch this in 2D
