Best thing about 2009

#1 Post by anakin » Thu Dec 24, 2009 10:45 am

So I'm a bit of a softie and love to reminisce. I thought, since 2009 is drawing to a close, it would be nice to remember the great things that have happened to us this year or whatever it is that's been the best thing about 2009 for you. So, I guess I ought to start us off...

In the latter part of this year I've become more actively involved in this site and have made some good friends and had some good laughts (and seen a bunch more free films), but without question, the best thing that happened to me this year was...

... getting married - I had the most amazing day (and it was a long day) and can't believe it was almost 5 months ago. I have the most amazing husband and am enjoying planning our future together. So for me 2009 has been the beginning of the rest of my life!

Oh dear... I did tell you I was a softie!

This is a good idea, though most of my "Best Things" would be the same as usual, i.e. long walks, films, plays, books. Certainly didn't do anything as momentous as getting married! Pleased to have been away a lot (10 times, counting one work-related trip), though mainly for weekends. The one thing which has been different this year, and definitely good, is finding and joining this site. Think I joined the original site in January, so it really has been almost a year, during which I've got to know some very nice people. More of the same for 2010 would be great.

Birth of my Son in September was the best thing of 2009 for me. o/
Surviving life threatening multiple clots in my brain and lung. o/
Being asked to be Godfather for my best friend's little girl. o/
Avoiding redundancy. o/
Oh and finding £90 on New Years Day, that was good but seems like a long time ago now

I have had a happy year, had its struggles but that's ironically what makes it a great life, when you overcome obstacles and move on. No grand occasions like you Anakin (what a treasured occasion for you but dare I say perhaps even more treasured moments to come down the marriage path!) But as with Ms Thrifty, in 2009 its the little things that amounted to happy year for me, like long walks (I do that too!), leading my cricket team to their most wins this season, my own personal best season average, and seriously...joining this forum since only September, I felt very welcomed and has become my second virtual home :)

But I now go into 2010 with a recently renewed sense of supreme optimism, having recently started a self rejuvenation in appearance, lifestyle and weight loss, and continuous joy of interacting with you guys on this terrific forum. Oh and a few more preview films to boot ;)

And Cagne, certainly has been a great year of occassions for you!

Here's wishing everyone many more great moments in 2010, however big or small, they all add up.

MrGlass, you continue to amaze me with how well you express yourself. Couldn't have said it better!

For me, it's been a year of ups and downs. Some very low points led to some great highs and now I'm back to 'normal' which is actually also pretty nice. Apart from many small happy moments, I have 3 quite momentous memories of 2009:

- Going travelling for 3 months in South East Asia was definitely one of them. A (probably) once in a lifetime opportunity that happened after I was made redundant. Gosh I am a lucky girl!
- Second in time but not importance was my OH's decision to move to Holland with me. It's where I am from and where my family and friends are and after 4.5 years in London I have had enough. My OH was at first very reluctant and it means the world to me that he is even considering something as big a this to make me happy.
- And finally, my most recent moment of happiness was when we decided 2 weeks ago to start trying for a baby. Our first and I am both excited and terrified. It feels like we are doing something grown-up and forbidden! Haha.

Something a friend once said to me: "may the best of our past be the worst of our future". Happy 2010!

Lovely to read all of your posts. Congratulations Anakin. And cagne, you certainly been through it.

Much like jmd1983, had been up and down, was made redundant at beginning of year (still unable to find work), but not let it get to me, found this site, been on courses to improve my skills, and generally just tried to relax without the pressures of the rat race! Redundancy was for me perhaps a blessing in disguise, as other opportunities are opening up to me and I do not need to work so hard....and have a more balanced lifestyle.

Best thing in 2009 for me was getting married. Working very swiftly, as always, in 2010 I can no expect the best thing to be my wife giving birth to our first baby on or around June 24th.

Wow some great stories (thanks for your kind comments about mine!), most notably Cagne perhaps, and clearly lots to look forward to in 2010... such as the next generation of FMUKers!

So encouraging to hear the positive side of what are usually viewed as bad things.

Here's wishing you all nothing but the best, whatever that might be for you, for 2010!
