I was expecting a tear jerker... There were certain people at my screening that were crying pretty much all the way through, all you could hear was sniffles in the audience! I did shed a tear on two occasions, literally two minutes apart. While the family were in hospital.

Saw this at Tottenham Crt Rd Odeon (1st time there) and I have to say the sound in our screen was poor. During the quiet and dramatic moments of the film, you could hear explosions and shouting from another film. Which is quite distracting when you're watching a tear jerker. Don't get me wrong, the sound was loud enough in the screen, but there were too many noticable quiet moments in the film, that were interrupted by the noise from next door. :nono: Did anyone else hear it??

Overall, I would give the movie 6.5/10. And I was not happy with Cameron Diaz in this film. I agree with most of the other posters in that she was not convincing in this role and if played by someone else would have been a very gritty performance.
Preferred cinemas: All Central London: APOLLO Piccadilly, EMPIRE Leicester Sq; ODEONS: Leicester Sq/Covent Garden/West End/Whiteleys/Panton St; VUE: West End/Fulham/Islington, CINEWORLD: Haymarket/Shaftesbury Ave; Brixton Ritzy,
Then: Westfield, o2, Clapham

I saw this lastnight at Boldon, I was just going to give my tickets to my sister, but went with a friend instead.
I am not one for tear jerkers at all, so i was panicking I wouldnt enjoy it!
Well i didn't so much, defintely isn't my kind of film, and this is now noted! lol!
I didn't enjoy Diaz in it, this could have been more suitably cast. The younger members of the cast were good actors, and payed their parts well. 6/10 mainly for the storyline. A few tears came from my cold hearted body haha! I'd recommend my mother and mother in law go and see it, otherwise, for me, it's easily forgotten.

A good 8/10

Only problem is that I couldn't stand Diaz as the mother role ....she was totally unconvincing.

A lesser know actress with some motherly qualities would have worked a lot better.
This doesn't mean being fat and frumpy.....just a bit more 'real'.
I also enjoyed this well enough only I just welled up a little (not nearly as much as in Marley & Me! Image) unlike some others in the audience. I'm not really a weepy film person but I'd give it 7/10. But I enjoyed the trailers for The Proposal and The Time Traveller's Wife - really looking forward to them! o/

How strange we had different previews - I'd always assumed they would be the same but I guess it must depend on the cinema chain as well

It's rather unusual to have trailers beforehand.
