anyone got one? do you use it much? or is it one of those
things that you think is a good idea, and turns out that you hardly ever
use it and is stuck in a box somewhere?

I have one that was one of the original 3-gun CRT (red green and blue) Barco units. I b*ght it from Paul Weilland - the director of Mr Bean and Walkers ads etc. and installed it in my attic as a cinema room. It was fantasticc and had a 2m screen. Since moving I now have a more modern LCD projector which I rarely use owing to the limited bulb life and the horrendous cost of replacing them. They are definitely the best way of watching movies at home (unless you are lucky enough to have a ginormous plasma screen.

yep i have an Infocus IN72 projector, got it in 2007 and its still working fine (fingers crossed)! The bulb life is around 2000 hours - I've used around 900 hours I think (also shows you how much I've watched over 5 years!). My screen is 90 inches, and it really is the best way to watch films at home if you have the space! the picture quality really is as good as watching tv, the only downside is you need to make sure you can make the room relatively dark.

I got mine brand new from ebay (an american seller) for £320 delivered - at the time, I remember amazon were selling it for about £550.

optoma budget projector, pretty close to a normal 90s tv in quality but some lack of depth/perspective sometimes in images, not sure why its sometmies and not others.

100 inch screen
halfway through bulb life in one and a half years, used most days.

bulb replacement = £80

so projected cost over 6 years £330, but its run from my pc so thats a tv licence saving of over £800ish. awesome, wish I'd done this since the inception of youtube.
