44 Inch Chest
Re: 44 Inch Chest
The general consensus so far on here is that the movie is one to miss and it's looking like the critics aren't too far behind on that opinion...
What might be interesting though would be to see just how many of the people who have been giving it bad reviews on here have also seen Sexy Beast?
(And for those who haven't seen Sexy Beast... go see it... now!)

All About Steve has currently got an astoundingly low 6% rating on Rotten Tomatoes so some might say that you still had a rather lucky escape in seeing 44 Inch Chest instead...

I would echo your comments. Sexy Beast is an entirely DIFFERENT Beast
Ben Kingsleys Don Logan was a truely frightening prospect and Ray Winstone is fantastic
Don't know what the writers were thinking this time around.

Re: 44 Inch Chest
Saw this at Didsbury Cineworld last night.
Couldn't see where the writer was coming from with this one. Were we supposed to empathise with the drunk, "Oh-I-love-my-wife-so-much-but-I'll-beat-the-sh*t-out-of-her-at-the-drop-of-a-hat" Diamond geezer? Were we supposed to pity him for his drunken hallucinations as he decided whether or not he was going to kill his wife's lover?
I didn't get it, I'm afraid, but I did like Ian McShane's entendre-laden performance. As others have said, John Hurt's character was another high-point, but it seemed to get a bit old after a while.
2/10 from me, I'm afraid. When I saw online reviewers saying that this was darkly comic I was hoping it might be in a similar vein as In Bruges. It wasn't.

44 Inch Chest.
Cineworld Birmingham Broad st
80% full.
hard to judge atmosphere some people did not enjoy the film.
I enjoyed the film. It appeared very much like a play (and would be very easy to do on stage), with lots of monologues from colin. I enjoyed it most up to the point where he started hallucinating in the boarded up house, after that it got a bit weird. still enjoyed it over all. my girlfriend didn't though.
would recommend it to select friends i think would enjoy it. (not that many)

Edinburgh 90% full.
Film, 90% disappointing.
Nothing I can add that's not been said above.

Re: 44 Inch Chest
The hell was this?
I sat in the cinema to watch it, great cast, trailer was well done, and an hour and a half late,r after learning very little, feeling nothing and hearing too many swear words to understand there may have been sentences in between (I'm no prude, in fact, I complain all the time about the lack of the C-word before the watershed, get the kids in early... but jesum crow, was there much besides c this and effing eff that?)
Good actors for a stage play that would have been meh at best, awful, awful, awful.

Re: 44 Inch Chest
There was a short thing about the film on the BBC Regional News earlier - I marvelled at their ability to find two sentences to show that had no swear words in them! They made the film look all fluffy and nice! It's featuring on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross in an hour, is anyone going to watch it?

Winstone critical of film's BAFTA treatment

I don't think the bad language is anything to do with it, it's just not good enough to be nominated for awards.

Surely the title to that article should be -
