Cinema was pretty full...I would say around 75/80%

I found the film pretty funny in places, and in general not to be taken seriously at all. I enjoyed it for what it was...a plot without depth gore fest. Went in without any expectations of the film and so not disappointed with it.

Mind you I thought the whole heart thing at the end was silly.....and a lot of parts seemed to fall into place by convenience.

I rate this movie 6/10 as we had a good laugh :p

Oh this was the cheesy goodness! It was very violent and gory - and the plot was unbelievable and paper thin. All that considered I was still rooting for the main character though. Not sue how they roped Naomie Harris into this.

I had a good laugh in places. Very ridiculous but I was in the mood for it. I liked the little clap it got at the end (were people just relived it was finished or did they appreciate it in all its cheesy glory?!?). I will give it 7/10 for what it was. Did anyone get interviewed at the end?

We saw the Camera Men...and promptly walked in the other direction pretty quickly (camera shy)

Saw the camera guys a lot, just stayed in one place to avoid overexposure, don't wish to dilute myself. When walking out people in front and behind were asked, fine, clearly my opinion ain't valid.

Most of the previous reviews sum it up really. A cheesy, gory action movie that passes the time without taxing the brain. Pretty much what you'd expect from a movie called 'Ninja Assassin'. Great to see a pretty substantial role for Sho Kosugi though.

Cheesy goodness was a good description from Opas. It was utter nonsense but I dug it! Although I still despise the fast edit shaky cam style of action and as expected for this type of movie, there are bouts of excruciatingly bad dialogue and some better dialogue delivered excruciatingly badly!

There seem to be a few Rain girlie fans in the audience as there were screams when he first appeared..in a laudrette, for a minute I thought we were goinna get a levis advert!

Incredibly gory though, which I suppose is part of the fun if you can stomach it.

Oh this was my first free movie for 2010!

Given all of the comments and opinions that have been expressed about the movie so far (mostly negative and critical with some bits of praise) the particularly funny thing is that everybody is right in their own way...

The criticisms you can level at the film are clear - there's an origami paper-thin plot, all the usual cliches are thrown at you like Ninja Stars, the actors stomp around the scenery like sumo wrestlers, and the biggest battle in the film is between the martial artists and the CGI artists...

HOWEVER I'd argue that this is exactly the kind of movie that its film-makers are trying to offer you!
It's a reference back to all those Ninja movies of the 80's but with a modern update, and guess what, those films had thin plots and bad acting, etc. but the focus of these films was on always trying to deliver entertaining action.

For starters, the film is called "Ninja Assassin" and it is also rated 18, so really there's a pretty clear signal to the movie-going public about just what kind of film it is...

There are also certain indications of their intent:

It can't be a coincidence that the bad guy is played by Shô Kosugi who was the big star of all those 80's Ninja films; Plus, the main producers are the Wachowskis Brothers (The Matrix etc.) and they always hark back to (although some would say steal from) the films that they enjoyed from their youth; Finally, one of the screenwriters is J. Michael Straczynski and he certainly knows how to deliver proper plots and dialogue when he wants to (e.g. The Changeling).

So it all seems to me like they actually intended to make the movie the way it is. Indeed, a lot of the appeal of the film comes from the fact that they just don't make films like this anymore. That they have made an R-rated film with visceral violence - when most films (including even horror films) are desperately trying to dumb down to a more commercial and teen-friendly 12A - is actually worth some praise.

There will always be people out there who loved the 80's style action movie (and, if we're being realistic, people who just love films with violent action). They are the target market, they are the people who will probably love this film, and in that respect the film is probably achieving what it set out to do.

By the way, I didn't see anybody wearing Ninja costumes at the screening, but I guess if anybody was a wearing truly authentic Ninja costume then you probably wouldn't see them coming or going in the first place... :P
