Re: Untouchable
I just found this movie so beautiful and so moving, and yet was crying with laughter throughout. I knew nothing about it before I went in and I was completely blown away, its the best film I have seen all year and I am trying to make all of my friends go and see it.

Re: Untouchable
I saw this at Everyman Belsize Park yesterday morning. We got there as they were opening up at 10.25am, and so was the first in and could take the back two rows, with the two seater reclining seats and the front of the seats go up too so you could have your feet up! Fab! I took my mum, and as she was rather frail, they offered to bring any drinks we purchased to our seats, although we declined. The service was very attentive and was even told that the seats in the back rows are nicer, which we were heading for anyway.
At a few minutes past 11am, the title page came up and abruptly turned off and the lights went up. Then we proceeded to have latecomers filing in until 20 past, looking for empty seats, the ushers came and looked and walked up and down about 10 times, it didn't make more seats appear! At 11.15, they apologised for delay, then finally they moved some chairs from the cafe outside, into the aisle at the back for the latecomers to sit on and the film started at 11.20am. I thought this was outrageous that we had to start late for latecomers and finding them seats!
Surprised, but nice to see funthing, who was a few minutes late, so worked out well for her that the film started late!
I thoroughly enjoyed the film, and agreed with everything that has already been said. Lovely heartwarming true story, but with lots of humour and a really good message that just because you are disabled, does not mean you do not feel or want the same things as a non-disabled person.
Did not even noticed the subtitling as I often watch subtitled films, they are my favourite, so am very used to them.

I too like the clips at the end, and yes, I did, all the way through, I was thinking it's Dustin Hoffman!canadian_turtle wrote: I loved the little touch at the end of "where are they now" as well as a very brief clip of the two people the story is based on. I always enjoy seeing the people that inspired a film if it's based on a true story.

Did anyone else think that the actor who plays Philippe looks very much like Dustin Hoffman?
Me too! I was tapping and bopping in my seat too.jojojoanne wrote:I also LOVED the 'Earth, Wind & Fire' music (my era!!) .. was bopping in me seat!! And when Driss started dancing - I soooo wanted to get up and dance along!!

Re: Untouchable
Saw this again at Greenwich Picturehouse where the usherette told us from the start that it was booked out and not to leave empty seats.
I think the movie works because it is not just a movie about disability although that was touched on as well. Philippe was in the fortunate position of being very rich and therefore able to afford all the carers he needed and he had an impressive array of staff. Nevertheless he was in physical and emotional pain, and he said himself that what disables him is not his being paralysed but being without the woman he loved. That’s why he also let himself go when Driss wasn’t there anymore as he was so fond of him. So there was enough in there to emotionally connect with the characters but it was also very very funny. Most of the jokes actually came from the class divide between Philippe and Driss – Philippe has a love of classical music, opera, poetry and modern art and thinks nothing of spending lots of money on it (30,000 Euros for a nosebleed??”) whereas Driss thinks it’s total lunacy wanting to watch a 4 hour opera in which a tree sings in German.

Btw, thinking he's Dustin Hoffman is a bit of an insult to Francois Cluzet who is taller and more handsome!

Re: Untouchable
Saw this today in croydon and knew I was expecting a funny and fantastic film from the reviews I have read o far and wasn't disappointed.
It was easily the best film this year. It had me in stitches and also in tears. Lovely chemistry between the 2 male leads which made it more believable.
10/10 looking forward to watching it again.

Surprising to actually see that it's been out since 2011!tilly wrote:It was easily the best film this year.

But back to the film, absolutely the best film this year after AA!
Thoroughly enjoyed this and would definitely recommend... great humour, great chemistry, great story... it was all just great!
It's been far too long that I've left a cinema with a huge smile on my face.
Interesting to see the real-life clips in the end and to see the carer was not actually black but possibly Moroccan?
Also nice to see the delightful Audrey Fleurot (she of the TV series Spiral).

I loved Francois Cluzet in Little White Lies too. Can't say I see too much resemblance to Dustin Hoffman though.

Re: Untouchable
Well I think that Francois Cluzet looks a lot like British actor Denis Lawson.
Saw Untouchable at Hackney Picturehouse on Sunday where they also had a problem with the film. It appeared in bright lime green and pink shadows -- very odd and it took a while for them to sort it out but we did get there in the end. Good film -- really enjoyed it.

Re: Untouchable
I hadn't read any reviews here so was totally amazed at how good this was. Best film I've seen in a while.
Re: Untouchable
I'm glad I haven't read any reviews of this movie before I went, except for the posts on here.
It was absolutely amazing. If you have a chance to go to this movie you should def do it!

Re: Untouchable
I watched this last night at Greenwich O2 thanks to cliveas. I had not read anything about the film apart from it having lots of good reviews. I was expecting something amazing after hearing how great it was, so maybe that is why I thought it was good but not as great as everyone was preaching....Anyway, I was expecting it to be a bit depressing. Luckily, it was not, it was kind of funny. I mean, some people were laughing like mad at the cinema, I did not think it was that funny, but it did make me smile quite a few times... It was especially interesting as it was based on a true story and you could see the real people it was based on at the end. 8/10.
