Its my favorite movie musical but didn't even consider b*ying tickets as I wasn't impressed by the casting, and now with the negative reviews can't say that I want to see it even for free. Plus I just got the sniffles so my head is throbbing on its own, I don't really need to go to the O2 for that either. On the other hand would love to see Chris Moyles' King of the Jews. Maybe tomorrow morning I will be better able to decide :confuse:

If you decide not to go, please make sure you pass your tickets on to someone who does want to see it.

It's brilliant.

There are some things that need to be improved on but this was the first ever live performance for Jesus Christ Superstar's sake!

The star of the show, for me, was not Jesus, but rather Tim Minchin. I've never had much time for him before but he is just fantastic in this.

If you're lucky enough to get free tickets, stop freakin' moaning and try to enjoy yourself.

I don't think people are 'freakin' moaning', howyoudoin. They are just reviewing the show which they are perfectly entitled to do. Just because it's free doesn't mean you have to leave your critical faculties at home.

Of course. I apologise if I came across as arrogant.

But it worries me that some people using this site may go to the theatre/cinema evenings JUST BECAUSE they are free, regardless of whether they think they will enjoy it. There are plenty of other people using FMUK that are able to say "no thanks" when something comes up that isn't their bag, therefore not depriving other members from going.

I only REALLY got annoyed when someone said they were seriously thinking of not going tomorrow because of a review on here. That suggests to me that (i) they have free tickets and (ii) they are going to go to waste.

I thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Despite getting there at 7:30 pm, I managed to get excellent seats on the ground floor in C1, so could see the stage ( with a bit of an overstretch) as well as the screen. Although it was particularly loud ( which I initially blamed on me getting old); I thought the staging was reasonably effective. I agree with most that Chris Moyles, Tim Minchin & Mel C were good in their respective roles & perhaps this may open up new careers for all of them?
I don't tend to like musicals that have no dialogue in between each song, however I eventually got use to this & really enjoyed it. Overall a lovely evening.

When I first arrived I thought it was not going to work for us so high up but it did at least for me.
Judas was always more important tha JC in the planning of the opera, it was a way to express a kind of "advocat of the devil" from a theatrical point of view, as it hadn't it being for him there wouldn't have been any JC as a "superstar" Mr M. took full advantage of his role.

If I am not mistaken the dialogue was cut because of the authors right: Tim Rice divorced the Lord and he was the writer and lyricist whereas ALW was the musician with some salt and pepper dialogue included in the music. It's all a long time ago so a lot of haze more than insight!I had a great night, but maybe because I had very very low expectations.
Mel C could have been a lot lot better and it didn't help how MM is depicted in the opera, which gets thoroughly on my nerves, as I've never liked any of the Magdalenes.
I'm always reticent about the histrionic capability of TV actors and yet Mr Moyles, whom I have never pa*d attention to was "the one" who really had a character with a "full life and background" I was told that that's the way he is, who knows? But it surely was spot on.

Pleasently surprised how enjoyable the evening went, show and company. Loved every moment of it.
Thanks again to Madame Celini for allowing me to gain entrance.

How bad is Level 4 for people who suffer from vertigo?

I sat in the gods at the Lyceum and whilst it was just about ok near the front, I did think the seats right at the back were so steep, they would have been challenging even for me and I have no problem with heights. One of our group suffers from vertigo slightly, so I'm a bit worried. I haven't been to the arena part of the O2 before (just the Cineworld), so don't really know what it's like.

Interesting though that a relative late comer got a ground floor seat!

Great minds think alike. :D I did the same because I found the music to be unbearably loud.

Not much to add to what others have said. We were sitting in level 4, so we couldn't see the full screen. Also, I don't think this worked well in the O2 arena setting. Often, I couldn't understand what was being sung, but I do know the story well (I used to attend Sunday school as a child) so I could follow what was going on. I was just surprised that there was no resurection at the end. On a more positive note, I liked the sets and the cast. However, I must admit that, when I got home, I told my bf that he had made the right choice by deciding not to go.

Thanks again to cliveas for the ticket!

I don't suffer from vertigo so can't really answer your questions but the stairs are quite steep and there is hardly any legroom so I found it quite uncomfortable to sit so quashed. The seats don't do a bad back good at all! It's a little better if you have no one next to you or in front, but if someone wants to squeeze past you have to get up, there's no way around it. I haven't got a problem with heights as such but sometimes, when the next row is quite far down you can get that feeling of falling (for example at the Apollo Piccadilly Circus I sometimes think I will fall into the row below if I am not careful walking along).
