Buses have been used on the streets of London since 1829, when George Shillibeer started operating his horse drawn omnibus service from Paddington to the city. In 1850 Thomas Tilling started horse bus services, and in 1855 the London General Omnibus Company or LGOC was founded to amalgamate and regulate the horse-drawn omnibus services then operating in London. LGOC began using motor omnibuses in 1902, and manufactured them itself from 1909. In 1904 Thomas Tilling started its first motor bus service. The last LGOC horse-drawn bus ran on 25 October 1911, although independent operators used them until 1914.....

though I doubt they run every 10min
The phrase itself probably didn't come into use until at least the 30s though. Lazy scriptwriting for the sake of a pithy sounding bit of dialogue.

Ive only just started watching this series, its on my Lovefilm streaming and thought I give it a go, hearing about its success in America and the always awesome Maggie Smith scooping up numerous awards. So watched first 2 episodes and oh my, it really is divine television, isnt it. What an exquisite and sweeping BBC production. This reminds me a lot of one of my favourite movies of all time, Remains of the Day with Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson. I know I have only watched 2 episodes so far but I am officially a fan now and sorry I am 2 years late to jump on this wagon.

Ha ha, just spotted this. The BBC would shoot you since it is in fact an ITV production. ;)

I do really like Downton Abbey and I have to say the first series was fantastic 10/10! By comparison series 2 was a bit of a let down (but still very good), however I'm falling back in love with it this series. Hope it keeps it up.

Wow what a dramatic evening at Downton Abbey. I feel a bit drained after all that - it would spoil it if I said any more as I know that some of you what it on I player.
