There were 8 of us at Odeon Greenwich. EIGHT. Kind of pathetic. The OH pronounced the film "strange but good" which is a relief because he normally can't stand weird films. And weird it was. I am afraid I don't know Alice in Wonderland that much so probably missed most of the references. Maggie Grace didn't do much acting to be honest, she just looked pretty. It wasn't a bad film but not something I would recommend or want to watch again.

6/10

Saw this today at Greenwich! yes there were only about 8 people there! I was worried at 1st that there would only be three but a few people arrived...would have been nicer to see more people there though! I think you were sitting in front of me Beate...I was too shy to ask but I did spot your orange bag with german written on one side at the very end! I was sitting behind you with my friend.

As for the film....I thought it was very artsy. There were quite a few references in film to the book ie. all the characters in the book were there but as humans with certain characteristics from the book....the relevance of time etc. It was different and fairly imaginative which I liked :D

I would give this movie 6.5/10 because it was amusing

Ps. Thank you again Beate for sending the tickets to me :D

Wow! 8 people only?!?

I'm kind of curious about the movie now. I love weird movies.

I could have said something too, jpeg, I knew it had to be you sitting behind me, it couldn't be anyone else as you were already there when we arrived and there was only one other couple arriving later, as well as two single people sitting dotted about. Sorry, will pipe up next time! So, yes, at least half of the audience was made up of FMUKkers.

Stacey Solomon gives Malice In Wonderland premiere the X Factor... shame about the film

In her days as an X Factor finalist, Stacey Solomon got used to mixing with the stars at London movie premieres, with flashing cameras, screaming fans and red carpet glamour.
So last night's outing to the opening of Malice in Wonderland must have been something of a let down.
Not that you could tell from the 20-year-old singer's dazzling smile.

Guests were hardly in the Hollywood league - with Paul Gascoigne's stepdaughter Bianca among those posing for photographers. The big star of the night was Danny Dyer, who has a leading role in the film, which is said to be a modern-day twist on Alice in Wonderland.

Despite the distinctly Z-list crowd, Stacey did her best to shine as she arrived at the Prince Charles cinema in London.
She kept warm in a fake fur jacket, which she removed to reveal a little black dress teamed with peep toe heels.

But her upbeat presence couldn't save the film from less than glowing reviews. In fact Daily Mail reviewer Chris Tookey went a little further, describing it as 'a cinematic abomination, devoid of any point, humour and entertainment value'.

He said trying to turn Lewis Carroll's classic tale into a British gangster comedy was 'one of the worst ever ideas for a movie'.

In the film, Dyer plays Whitey, a Cockney cab driver whose character is the equivalent of the fairytale's White Rabbit. Alice is a drug-addled amnesiac American heiress while the Mad Hatter is depicted as an East End madam.
Since landing third place on The X Factor, Stacey has been busy performing across the country.
She is hoping to land a record contract, but has sensibly thought of a back-up option if her pop dreams fail to materialise.
'If, God forbid, nothing comes out of this then I will just have to go back to college to learn how to teach people to sing,' she said. 'Then at least singing will still be my job.'
And during her time on the show, when contemplating the possibility of her pop career failing to take off, she declared: 'There's always Asda'.

Malice In Wonderland (15)
Three Stars

Plot
Young American Alice, is alone on UK city streets, with no memory of who she is and where she's from. She encounters highly unusual characters on her quest to find herself.

Review
Amnesiac Alice (Maggie Grace, Lost’s Shannon) rushes down an underpass and hooks up with Whitey (Danny Dyer), a cab driver who worries he’s always late. On the run through a tilted, neon-lit, nighttime cityscape, they encounter bizarre, dangerous characters.

This urban spin on Lewis Carroll has clever reinterpretations (here, ‘stealing tarts’ means abducting prostitutes, the Cheshire Cat is a mysterious DJ, and Tweedledum and Tweedledee are obnoxious club doormen), and guest turns from the likes of Nathaniel Parker and Bronagh Gallagher combine Britpic gangland eccentricity with Adam West Batman villainy. Grace is a touch vapid as a pill-popping, whiny Alice, and — even in this context — Dyer’s jitteriness is overdone, but Malice is lively and inventive, and has a unique look.

Verdict
Genuinely original interpretation of the Brit gangster and Lewis Carroll's surreal tale.
