Also went to the Odeon Covent Garden, thankfully no paper was asked for as I didn't have one. Arrived at 6pm and got the two last seats together at the front. Seemed like a lot of people were being turned away.

Did cry a few times, and wouldn't mind re-watching though I need a few months to recover for that 157 minutes running time. Still a fan of the Liam Neeson movie but I think this "modern" version wins.

I saw this at Leeds Odeon and nobody asked for the paper there although some came prepared.

Pretty sure everyone got in at Norwich paper or not, how ridiculous, I remember doing this in the past several years ago with Heat and other mags/papers and was only once ever asked for the page (think it was the Star Trek film), they gave in at 6.15pm when only around 6 or so actually had the paper and let the rabble "paperless people" in. Quite frankly they couldn't really hold out until just before the start and ruin it for the "paper people". Anyway my friend and I thoroughly enjoyed the film, although we both agreed that at various points in the film we thought yeah ok, we get the drift of the song, move on to the next bit please, thought the little boy was lovely and Russell Crowe was a real surprise. Wouldn't watch it again or at home though. 7/10 from me.

Got to Printworks about 6.10 and was surprised to be asked for the paper. When I played dumb and said "no, is it a problem?" the guy said "no, but it was earlier!" Very mysterious, but we got in ok. It was half full then, but completely full at the start.

Film was impressive, but felt v long. Hugh and Anne were fantastic and I thought her early scenes stood out for me. Great comic support from Ali G and The Queen Mum.

Will have to use tickets I won to see this. Radio tonight said Russell Crowe poor his voice too weak but hat Hugh jackman outstanding.

What did the flukes think of their performances?
Hopefully get to see it soon.

yup I think Star Trek is the last time I bothered to b*y Heat magazine, stood there with it in my hand waiting to show it and all they were bothered about was bagging up phones so after that decided never to bother again.

Yes, we were at Odeon Greenwich at 5.30pm to start the queue. I had a feeling it was going to go mad. I went to the loo and when I returned some old biddies were crowding the poor usher girl demanding to know why they couldn't go in yet and waving the Daily Mail page around. Stupid women, they nearly ruined everything. ("He's not a person, Tina, he's a Daily Mail reader.") I want you FMUKers without the DM page to know that if if hadn't been for me having a word with the manager you wouldn't have got in when you did as he was fully planning to do 2 queues with the DM page people getting in first, mumbling something about 2 sets of tickets having been given out. So I explained that the page wasn't the ticket, and on the proper ticket it says nothing about having the page, but it does say "First come, first served", and I haven't come an hour early to be bumped back. The lovely usher girl backed me up by pointing out that the DM page only said how to get tickets but wasn't the ticket itself (we were both conveniently skipping over the fact that it says on there to have this page also, plus ID), so he relented and told us to start one proper queue. Yes guv, no problem guv. Saw evilzadi and bevvy plus a face from the past in the queue (you on here, Paul?) and later on cliveas waving to me. I think we even had a few seats left in the first row.

The film didn't really grab me I am afraid to say. Like elski I didn't expect them to sing all the time, it felt like opera, and I don't like opera. It was also way too long. The performances were mostly good (Hathaway and Jackman sing well enough though Crowe was a bit of a joke IMHO) but all this overwrought emotion was starting to get on my nerves after a while. I swear Anne Hathaway almost screamed her way through the iconic I Dreamed a Dream, contorting her face like crazy. Yes, she was conveying emotion, but I still prefer Meryl Streep singing Winner Takes It All - that brings a tear to my eye everytime. Apart from that song there weren't many catchy enough tunes for me and I am not overly fond of Eddie Redmayne. His voice was ok but what Cosette saw in him when there was that cute blond curly-haired one right next to him I'll never know. Sacha Baron Cohen was brilliant in his comedy role but Bonham Carter just gets on my nerves whatever she does. And the ending, geez. Or - cheese.

But OH thought the film was utterly brilliant, and that's a result.

What moron left their phone on in Covent Garden and had it go off during Anne Hathaway's big number? Is it really so hard to put it on silent before a film starts? Ruined the best scene in the film.

Back from a pretty full Braehead though they were seats left. About 3/4 of the audiences didn't have the paper. Odeon did explain they received an email at 17:30 from their head office to ask for the paper. Must come from the shambles from Saturday I guess. Odeon did redeem themselves by letting us paperless people in. However they muck up as one member of staff was allocating seats whilst another wasn't.

The film itself was good (if you like musicals). Thought there be more chat/banter/conversation between the characters but nope. Minimum words were spoken. Hathaway was brilliant in the short time she was on. Whilst I felt Jackman and Crowe held their own. I guess I was a wee bit disappointed I didn't see the version with Wolverine, Gladiator and Borat. That one sounded fun. 8/10
