Car help

#1 Post by aruif » Thu Oct 18, 2012 9:56 pm

Im sorry o ask but I'm desperate. I exchanged my car at a network q garage and within a week i found it had more than a handful of problems. Now the garage have taken it back but aren't being forthcoming with what checks they gave it prior to selling it to me. The network q website says all their cars have a full check inside and out and are road tested. But the garage say the car didn't present any of these problems when they had it - and just say its a 5 page document of changes they can't tell me what's on it.

The problems range from a broken drivers chair, front tyres aren't balanced, hand break isnt right, power steering doesn't work properly, and the engine doesn't cut off when you turn it off (only when the key is fully removed), drivers door hinge is loose and cracks.

I'm now told because I changed the stereo (I had it changed professionally, they haven't asked this but) that I have caused the problem with the engine. I said it did it before ( I hadn't realised until Saturday what was happening, I'd only had the car 9 days driven it for 5) I thought I'd been forgetting to turn the engine off! In fact when I test drove it (for 5 mins) the salesman did the same thing "oh I thought I'd turned it off"

Anyway please can someone tell me where I stand. I want to reverse the deal. I was told hey didn't have my old car and I saw it yesterday. There's no finance involved it was all cash. They pa*d me not me them. I got an older car and a quite a bit of money.

Any advice especially with the faults (stereo one sounds ridiculous!) would be good.

Very unhappy right now :(

have you tried asking the same on hduk misc as they seem to have mechanics who know their stuff, if you don't get any answers here. Did the car come with a warranty?

No I'm not on that site I don't know it.

Yes it's under warranty but these things are not being looked at in conjunction with my warranty. The sales department are being billed.

The managing director is due to call me tomorrow as I emailed twice to complain because I feel like I'm being lied to, I've had awful customer service and the car is not what I was sold at all. Not at all the deal I made. Furious and concerned about what else might be wrong.

sounds like they are in the wrong and are trying to pull a fast one. There is a motoring forum on mse as well, sounds like you returned it within 7 days and according to warranty and facts on there site you should not have these problems, can't see how a stereo would effect engine myself either. Hope the director is more helpful when he calls. If not maybe you could threaten them with Watchdog if all else fails. fingers crossed for you.

good for you, I think you were in your rights as it says 7 days on their terms/conditions and obvious they had failed to do the checks right. At least you had a convertible to drive for a week.

Yup and I did enjoy it and in the future I will certainly consider having one again but only if it's a year or so old.

Hi, sounds like they realised they were clearly in the wrong, most of these used car programmes carry an x day period for you to hand the car back if you change your mind, I know Toyota have a 30 day period, sure Volkswagen have a 30day or 1000mile period as well. I'd have personally pushed for a little recompense for the hassle and disappointment this has caused to you. You now have to search for a suitable replacement etc, etc... ;)

I just feel sorry for the next person who ends up with that car, who may not get back their money so easily.
