Should I be lingering in this thread...?

Oh why not, I actually love pancake...worth squeezing a second cheat day for Shrove Tuesday. I have good memories of being being taught how to make them since school and remains one of the only decent piece of desert I can make fairly well and its so much fun tossing them. In fact, maybe even better than my mother's (which is probably a sacriligious thing to say) but when she makes them, its thick... I like how I make them thin. Little sugar and lemon as Diane describes, yum, or a little honey.

See, this is what's wrong with this country. Sweet pancakes. In Germany we make them savoury and we eat them with savoury things like ham and asparagus and they are all the better for it. My recipe is somewhere earlier in the thread that I have just merged, and yes, I shall be making some tomorrow.

Just looked at your recipe Beate I like the idea of using spelt flour (off topic I know but Morrison spelt and rye bread is heaven) so I could use that recipe for my savoury ones followed by a couple of sweet ones made with white flour.

When I was young, the first batch of pancakes my mum made were always eaten with cheese. The second batch had either jam or syrup. We could eat the pancakes quicker than she could make them! :p Memories! :D

France do it both ways and call it crepes...and I love their crepes! But I sure like to try the German pancake too...:)

Are the thin ones you make the Dutch versions? :D

Never heard of lemon and sugar before, we either make them plain (which is then topped with icing sugar OR sirup OR jam) or we bake apples into them OR cheese OR bacon.
