I don't think i will be reading the book. I thought the film was way to long. I know it had a lot to cover but the film would be so much more appealing if they cut out about a hour of the film. It wasn't boring as such but there was so much going on and all the different stories (although connected), it was alot to grasp when your watching a movie. I thought it was really well put together but it needs to be streamlined to give it more appeal and make the movie more enjoyable to watch.

Or alternatively the film should of been done as a 2 or 3 part film to give the full effect. Its a shame the film lost appeal when it was so well put together.

Hmm, I think you might've enjoyed the 131 minute Chinese edition a tad more, but I'm not sold on splitting it into 3 parts. Can you imagine if they'd spread the release over 3 consecutive years? Who in their right mind would've been able to recollect exactly what had transpired during the first 2 acts without being obligated to revisit them annually (or even bi-annually)? Memory and association are key for full-appreciation of this movie -- and of course, a natural affinity for life philosophy.

Lol, a 9 hour hike through the countryside is hardly anywhere near as complicated.

Oh dear, that's an hour and three quarters of my life I wont get back again, it was precisely the same amount of time it took to finish my free popcorn from the cinemi app and for my friend to nudge me and say "shall we make a swift exit?" I just really didn't care about the characters, nor did I understand the pigeon-esq language or some of the other dialogue, nor did I see the point in it all or feel there was any sort story going on and I really didn't want to wait another hour or so to find out that I had wasted even more of my life. We did decide that probably most people will rave about the film and think we are odd, but hey ho, horses for courses. Terrible 1/10 from me.

I thought it was a fantastic production it you had to concentrate on every line of dialogue to follow the multiple story lines clearly enough to get the full benefit. For a duration of almost 3 hours this was impossible and therefore I came out feeling I had left quite a lot behind.
It is a film that you will either love or hate and I am nt sure which one applies to me

Having already decided that this may not be my cup of tea I was pleasantly surprised. There were a few walk outs thankfully I wasn't one of them. Filmed and acted beautifully, engaging story lines in each era although I was captivated and confused in equal measure therefore only 6/10.

I saw this a second time at O2 Cineworld. Yes, I am a glutton for punishment and I enjoyed it even more this time.

David Mitchell the writer of the book also makes an appearance in the film as a Union Spy.

9.5/10

I found it hard to follow. There was so much going on, and it was too long and confusing. Not for me.
