Just ran a frantic search around my incredibly messy room mates bedroom(im talking piles of trash and clothes mixed together in the corner....yuk) and found their usb cable for their printer.
By some stroke of luck it fits mine, and lord behold, connected instantly!
Stress attack over thank god!

Thanks for the pointers Steve, I'm going to try and get the wifi to work if it kills me!

You probably need to tell the printer what ip address its on via the usb connection. After the initial configuration you'll be able to use the web interface in future. Printers sometimes need to be told their ip settings before they work, you might need the gateway address also - its the one the router itself uses.

I can't connect to OH's phone at the moment but he swear's it's on. I told him to put it on a charger but it hasn't helped so far. I checked the service status and it's apparently fine. I told him earlier to switch it off and back on and it worked for a little while but now I can't connect again. Is his phone dying?

If the phone is charged and on - maybe the SIM is loose and/or has dust on it? Although normally you would get a 'SIM card rejected' message.

I just phoned him again and got through so hoping that the charge-up will fix it - the one thing I fear most is that I cannot reach him.

If you're made of money, this is where Apple really come into their own - there's a great little app called 'Find My Friends' that you could use to track his location. Available on ipod, ipad and iphone, but obviously works best with the 3G models as otherwise you're reliant on him being in a wifi zone and having signed in.

My family use this app. Not for everyone, admittedly, but we find it useful for various reasons.

Well, if you ever fancy an upgrade and you're made of money. ;)

I too am on an old Nokia as my main phone though - mine is well over a decade old and still going strong, but sometimes the SIM does get loose and it doesn't beep or anything to alert me. But if I check, there will be an error message in the background.

This may be what's happening to your OH's brick. Worth keeping an eye on.

Could you swap phones for a few days so you could check? Or would that be unsettling/difficult (i.e. numbers saved to phone rather than SIM).
