I wasn't entirely sure why the sister had to be such a dislikable character...it didn't add anything to the story for me and there seemed to be no real reason for her being such a shitty person.

5/10
Completely agree about the sister. And still feel that the themes of infertility and childlessness don't sit comfortably within a Disney film.
I think that was one of the few aspects I liked about the film...the fact that it touched on infertility and the death of a loved one.

The inability to reproduce is not entirely uncommon and seeing it featured in a film like this acts as a good catalyst for an age appropriate discussion about a sensitive topic IMO.

I saw this today at Boldon, which was fairly full, and it held the attention of the audience, both young and old. It wasn't your usual Disney film, and not targeted at the very young. It raises a few issues - infertility, bullying and death, and provides a good platform for discussion within families. I don't think it will be as popular as many other Disney movies, but it was a charming film, and a rather pleasant way to spend a bitterly cold Sunday morning.

6/10 from me.

Here's my review. Super schmaltzy stuff, which is a shame because there's the core of an interesting story there. The film is hellbent on not exploring any of the interesting implications of what's happening.

Saw this in Glasgow Cineworld.

Personally I enjoyed this film. It was touching, funny and likeable. Though it is a U I don't think children under a certain age will "get" or understand what is going on. 7/10

My son was 5 last month...so not long since being 4 and he didn't talk or ask a single question throughout the movie. His first words when it finished were...
"So they did get a child after all. That's a happy ending..."
I think the fact that I showed him the trailer beforehand helped him to understand the trickier 'bigger boy' plot points. We had a brief discussion about the characters who were unable to have children - "some men and ladies can't make a baby in the ladies belly, the Doctor's try to help but sometimes it never happens and often they have their children another way." - and how it looked like a magical boy had entered their lives. He did ask about why there were children out there waiting for new parents and I explained that to him in relatively simple and reassuring terms without lingering on subjects involving death and abuse. I think it's important to be honest, but not brutally so. Kids are more tenacious and understanding than we give them credit for.

I saw this film yesterday at Bristol Cineworld, and i really enjoyed it, and would reccommend it, could not believe that the cinema was empty, only about 30-40 people watching it.

Saw this yesterday in Glasgow. I really enjoyed it and found it very touching and heartfelt. In saying that, I would agree with previous posts in that I'm not sure children under a certain age would enjoy or even understand what was going on. I thought it was quite like another of the Disney classics Mary Poppins...without the musicality! I'd recommend this one.
