The Father Of My Children
The Father Of My Children
I saw this today at a (pa*d) preview, followed by a Q & A with director Mia Hansen-Love. I enjoyed the film (it was reminiscent of "The First Day Of The Rest Of Your Life", but minus the high drama) but did think it went on a little too long and ended rather inconclusively. The family scenes were particularly realistic and convincing - apparently the children had no acting experience. Mia Hansen-Love's English was fluent and she made a short introductory speech in English, but when it came to the Q & A, she spoke French and had a translator, which I was fortunate not to have to rely on, as the original answers were much longer than the eventual translation! A neat twist is that it's a film about film-making (amongst other things), yet apparently this made it hard to finance as some people feared it would be of minority interest only.
