The recovery disc was created from within Vista on that machine when I got it, we got the same result when trying to use the recovery set up on the hard drive itself.

My laptop died and can't be fixed, does anyone know of any good deals available at the moment?
I have looked on line, but I do not understand about processors, there are so many.

Groupon has a MacBook pro on it at the moment (apparently, someone on my Twitter feed purchased one from there last night). No idea how good the deal is though as I didn't have a look myself ;)

I'd ignore processors, they all tend to be fast enough these days. The main limiting factors depends on what you actually need it for and what software you will install. Games and video rendering will require dedicated graphics but word processing and youtube will be happy with shared memory graphics (much cheaper). However, you should go for as much memory as possible or have the ability to expand memory with a spare slot. Win7 and Win8 will use all the memory you throw at it and is the best way to speed up your system.
