Re: Bernie
Saw this in Glasgow. Really enjoyed it. Good advert for euthanasia and spending the money on good causes. Some people are just plain bad.
Re: Bernie
It was part of a Drivers' Ed. course & not "real"stuartboy wrote:I took the scene
with the car crash where the Grim Reaper paraded about in the background
to be real albeit played for comedy. Can anyone confirm that I was right? Am begining now to think that it was a set up scene or demonstration for the school.
I did think it was funny (although only if unintentional) when one of the corpses corpsed when being picked up, and was told not to laugh
Re: Bernie
Guess it was just wishful thinking that something funny might actually happen in a comedy then. Shoulda known better. Boo.

Cineworld Unlimited is cheating! ;-)

You're definitely not on your own there! I'm glad I made the effort to see it, great little story. Currently it's on 91% on Rotten Tomatoes, so the critics obviously liked it a lot!disneyliz wrote:I thought Jack Black acted superbly within an intriguing true story. Guess I'm on my own with my opinion though......

Re: Bernie
I thought I'd already written my review but can't see it so . . .
I had absolutely no idea what this film was going to be about and struggled at the beginning with the interviewees talking in the past . . .I just wanted the film to start! However, once I accepted the style, I began to follow what was happening.
I must admit I did think Jack Black's singing was very good . . . that's my positive comment!
I did not find the film funny though I do think I had a wee chuckle once or twice.
At first I thought I was watching a "Ladykillers" type of film and was quite shocked to discover that the story was not fiction!
I have not as yet done so, but I do intend to "Google" Bernie's name and find out some things about the actual crime.
We did have a couple of very young children in the cinema which surprised me. Just because a film is a 12A, it doesn't mean that any child should be taken. Parents need to be a little more discerning in the films they take their children to see. I know it's a pain having to only watch PG or U films but your children will grow up! Mine did!
Just because it's free, doesn't release you from your parenting responsibilities.
I had a toss up between this film and "I'm so excited" re marks and gave them both the same!
Marks 4.5/10

Re: Bernie
Black and MacLaine are brilliant but this is not one of Linklater's best films. Nice use of the talking heads but takes a while to get going and misses a lot of laughs.

Re: Bernie
A so-so film. I generally like biopics, particularly when they are criminally related. For me this was a little slow. JB and MM were good but overall I have to give it 6/10.
