Just as an FYI, it's "Dammit Jim, I'm a doctor, not a torpedo technician!" Nice review though, you hit the nail on the head re the callbacks. They should let these films stand on their own.

Saw this last night at o2 cineworld (screen 7) thanks to Beate. Pity the screen was at only around 50% capacity. Only the middle section the gradient had bums on seats.

The screening was in 3D, which was a pleasant surprise for me and bf. I too dodged the spear in the opening minutes of the film. I thought they made good use of the 3D, for me, it was the second best 3D movie I've seen (first being Avatar). I did not find any parts blurry. I am short sighted and was wearing my specs under the 3D glasses, bit cumbersome but thankfully not heavy or uncomfortable.

Not wanting to repeat what's already been said about the film - I would recommend it to those that like sci-fi. It didn't feel like a 2 hour movie - story flowed well.

9/10 from me (and bf)
curious to know what others thought about the analogy of 'war on terror' used within the film. The fight between Spoc and Cumberbatch on the flying platform in futuristic London was my favourite part
Preferred cinemas: All Central London: APOLLO Piccadilly, EMPIRE Leicester Sq; ODEONS: Leicester Sq/Covent Garden/West End/Whiteleys/Panton St; VUE: West End/Fulham/Islington, CINEWORLD: Haymarket/Shaftesbury Ave; Brixton Ritzy,
Then: Westfield, o2, Clapham

Saw this in Nottingham on Tues was surprised it was 3d and only 50% capacity. I too felt my vision was blurry at the beginning but after the first 10minutes or so the vision was ok for me. I've never been into Star Trek but I enjoyed this film and would recommend.

stupendously good. I was never a fan of the original movies which seemed to be an excuse to plug an American-led team being the overtly moral heroes again and again, but this new Starship Troopers style (but way better than that) is something else.

Warp 10/10.
fav 5 films of the year - Tenet, Bill n Ted 3, Invisible Man, JoJo Rabbit, ?

Not a Trekkie but enjoyed this, and will now make an effort to see the last one. I loved how the crew looked so much like the original cast. 7/10
