My laptop dropped off a stool, not from a great height, it was open at the time. It ended up frozen so I forced it to close, now when I try to start it up, it makes me go to startup repair. That has been running for four hours and nothing. Ay ideas? I guess it's fried sadly :crying: vs

Get MrG to come round and have a look ;)
(I'd love to help but I won't be much around in the next 10 days or so. If you still not sorted when I'm back, I'll be happy to take care of it)

There is a website i use for work to order stock, it searches as you type. e.g. if i type in the first letters of a customers name, it autofills the rest of the letters that match without clicking search. I want to be able to use this website on my Android phone. But the search function doesn't seem to work.
Any ideas why? Or if there it's a browser that works with this kind of site? Thanks

Prognosis not good. Any drop to a floor is bad news for the hard drive. The platters are spinning very fast and the heads are never supposed to touch the platters. Damage is inevitable. You will need a new hard drive and depending on what areas were damaged you can recover some data, I doubt all is recoverable. When a drive is switched off the heads are in a safe position so dropping it then is more likely to be recoverable. However when switched on, its the most fragile part of the system. There are drives and systems designed to survive being dropped but they tend to be rather expensive. Best bet is to do what I did and install a solid state drive, no moving parts.

There are usually two types of website available, one for a pc and one for a phone. Guess how the browser normally defaults what it displays? There is usually a setting in most mobile browsers which allows you to access the pc version of the web site instead.

If you are using android, I recommend going into the google play store and downloading the "Dolphin Browser" Then you can go into Settings > User Agent > Desktop.

That will allow you to view the web pages like a desktop computer, the standard browser on Andriod phones doesn't have that option unless they included it in a update recently...

thanks Steve9872, I can get it to start in safe mode now but that's all. HOwever I can claim off my insurance for a new one, and I back it all up on my Iomega so fingers crossed I can get most stuff sorted. Shame as I was going to sell it to a mate who needed one
