Public Enemies
Re: Public Enemies
it was bugging me where i'd seen the actress who played the character anna sage from, but now i can rest easy, she played Ana in the excellent tv series Big Love, which sadly isn't shown in the UK anymore.

Re: Public Enemies
Didn't she appear in the Kusturica movie "Black Cat, White Cat"? I love that film!Spanner wrote:it was bugging me where i'd seen the actress who played the character anna sage from, but now i can rest easy, she played Ana in the excellent tv series Big Love, which sadly isn't shown in the UK anymore.

I was supposed to go to Greenwich but wasn't very well, so luckily I was able to go to Haymarket. I thought the film was better than I thought it was going to be. Some of the scenes were stunning. HOwever I go along with the concencus, it was overlong and the gun battles too numerous. 7/10

Re: Public Enemies
Went to see this at Romford Vue today, love Michael Mann infinitely and couldn't wait to watch it finally.
Turns out they have speaker problems in that screen, they knew last night and still have let two showing of this film take place so far without telling anyone, I got my money back after a bit of time, need to find a place locally to watch it tomorrow, I'm dying now for this film.

Saw on Monday at Glasgow Braehead, with my mum but we were on time for once wayhey!! Film was good but a little disappointing, while Depp certainly performed with the usual charisma, I agree that we don't get much of a backstory to his character and don't seem to get any backstory to any of the other characters, particularly I'd have liked to have known more about Melvin. I agree with the comments that the scenes in the woods seemed to be shot in a very amateur way, my mum said afterwards that she thought they were experimenting to make the film more old stylee but if that was the aim I don't think it worked. Also agree that it seemed too long, and at times got the impression that I'd seen it all before (haven't actually seen any movies about Dillinger before but have seen a few bank robberies and charismatic criminal types), so was a little weary watching it. Didn't quite measure up to my expectations but was still pretty good, 6.5/10.

No it wasn't just you. I agree. I thought it was abit on the quiet side, was quite straining to hear what they were saying but the gun shots were definitely very quiet!!! I thought it was just me not hearing so well, glad to see it wasn't!!!NeilTh wrote: Totally agree with the others that it was noisy and was it me or was the sound pretty quiet. Gunshots V loud but talking was very quiet

Re: Public Enemies
Well, finally, they had a second screen to show it in, with actual sound, and wow.
Was excited for this, THE film of the summer, I mean, Michael Mann is brilliant.
So why was this long, dull and unmoving, uninteresting and uninvolved? Mann always knows his characters so well, here with real people it feels like he can't get into their minds as much as Vincent and Max in Collateral, meaning we get characters who do things as you'd expect, with nothing to define them except the actors portraying them.
Looks like 2009 is the Moviepocalypse when Michael Mann can't make a good film.
