Should the Free Theatre/Concert/Misc codes topic be split?
Should the Free Theatre/Concert/Misc codes topic be split?
I think the topic is excellent and love getting free codes, but wondered if there should be a new topic "Free Theatre/Concert/Misc - codes only, Outside of London Only".
I think the existing topic is probably over 90% London based (which makes sense as that's where most shows are), but for those of us that live outside it can mean a bit of searching or missing out on codes.
It does only take a couple of seconds to read through and see if the code is relevant to you or not, but thought it might be a worthy question to ask?
All other topics seem to have good nationwide coverage, so I do think it would be just this one.

Re: Should the Free Theatre/Concert/Misc codes topic be spli
I think this could be quite hard to do as a code doesn't always specifically list a location (sometimes just the name of the theatre/venue) and thus the poster doesn't know where to publish it. Not to mention, what do we consider "London"? Some will only think of the West End, others will include Croydon (for example).

• Cinemas in order of preference: West End/Central London, Wood Green, Islington, Finchley Road
• (32/2014, 81/2013, 95/2012, 76/2011)

I think one Theatre/Concert codes topic is quite enough really. As c_t said, with two the margin for error is much higher, and let's not forget we have a limited email alert allocation.

If the code is for a specific location, such as London, why not just post it on the regional board?

Because they might be overlooked there. We have created a code thread specifically to collect all the codes in.

I didn't think about that, and is a very good point.canadian_turtle wrote:what do we consider "London"? Some will only think of the West End, others will include Croydon (for example).
I also vote to keep things as they are.

Although some of us here do also like plays and concerts, it is, after all, primarily a film site; furthermore, more threads means more work for mods/admins, so I'd have to agree with maintaining the status quo.

Re: Should the Free Theatre/Concert/Misc codes topic be spli
I've even had a suggestion recently to put film codes which are just for London on the London board as it's not fair for people from elsewhere to be alerted to something they can't use. Sorry but that's just ridiculous. What next - separate the Competition threads according to location? I am sorry that people are so aggrieved by London getting more than their fair share but that's just the way it is and I am not going to split the board in half because of it. Free Films in Free Films, Competitions in Competitions, Free Theatre/Concert codes in exactly that thread.

You also have to remember that whilst London does seem to have the majority of previews/shows/events it is relatively in proportion to the number of people. There are more people in London than in the whole of Scotland (8.174 million to 5.295 million (2011 figures).
Keep things the way it is and it is up to you to make a wee bit of effort if you want to know if there is a freebie in your area. Though Beate could spoon fed all of us whilst she is working and going to all these freebies in London.
