Pacific Rim
Re: Pacific Rim
Did anyone laugh at the "comic relief" provided by the 2 geeky boffins ?
Certainly not at the screening I attended. There was an embarrassed silence each time they appeared. Face Palms were abundant.
Had to watch a double bill of Hellboy & Pan's Labyrinth to flush this drivel from my visual cortex.

I did, but I'm quite biased. Charlie Day can do no wrong for me.newdot wrote:Did anyone laugh at the "comic relief" provided by the 2 geeky boffins ?

I think It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is one of the funniest shows I've ever seen.

Re: Pacific Rim
Very impressive CGI effects but the story line was so formulaic that it annoyed me. I couldn't believe that Del Toro directed this! 5.5/10

Re: Pacific Rim
Went to see this on Saturday at Wimbledon with my nephew who is 10 so thought he would love it.
In the end I loved it and he was bored.
Could see why it was little too long. Would be better under 2 hours
loved the special effects and although end of the world / Godzilla/ transformers type of film felt different
Loved the 2 science guys they were fab characters and so funny
7/10 from me ( mindless fun. But action scenes could have been better )
3/10 from my nephew.

Seems there's been a review embargo as they are all pouring in at once now, mostly positive:

Re: Pacific Rim
Mine's a high 3/5, and I enjoyed the comic relief, it was the right way to handle all the exposition, Kaiju-wise.
It's all slightly silly and accepting the action genre's roots/evolution, even if it starts off real slow. Last hour, though, blasts by with crazy fun.

Re: Pacific Rim
I fully agree. I realized in the middle of the film I forgot to turn off an alarm that would probably override my silent and go off right at the end (knowing murphy's law in the tensest and quietest moment of the film) so I turned it off while keeping it under cover in my jacket. I thought the film was nearly over by this point (and therefore that the alarm was about to go off) but to my surprise it was only noon! The second hour did seem to fly by much quicker though.EthanRunt wrote:Mine's a high 3/5, and I enjoyed the comic relief, it was the right way to handle all the exposition, Kaiju-wise.

I was thinking this the whole time!
Especially when they used the sword, reallyprettyxcool wrote:Go, go, power rangers!

Didn't really understand if they were aliens or just regular animals...their tactics seemed 'alien smart'.
I'll put this bit in spoilers. How can the Jaegers win any fight in water, wouldn't they be much heavier and slower than an amphibious creature, what about rust, also dropping using helicopters, they cant land on their feet all the time? What about water displacement...scienctific people will know better than me....also this started in 2020 and we had the technology/knowledge to build Jaegers and develop drifting?
See, when brain is switched on, there are too many questions.

You're missing the point if you spend your time picking apart the logical consistencies of fantasy summer blockbusters. None of these questions matter in the slightest.cascy101 wrote:I was thinking this the whole time! Fortunately critics seem to be liking this as much as I did. 81% on the tomatometer - I hope it does well at the Box Office.
