Comic Con International - San Diego

#1 Post by pandv2010 » Tue Jul 23, 2013 10:59 am

Does anyone else wish that they did a Comic con here in the UK to the same scale as San Diego?

Seriously! As a country, we love our films and tv and would love to learn more about them and be given the opportunity to chat to the 'panel' and find out whats next in store for our favourite shows.

London Comic Con is nowhere close to being anywhere as incredible as what San Diego has to offer.
How can we improve on this current situation. I'd happily spend a fortune to save up to go San Diego next year.

With a lot of the panel members (actors, creatives) being American and living on the West Coast it's easier (and cheaper!) for them to all gather in San Diego. I too wish LCC was more like that but I unfortunately don't think it's ever going to happen. We do have a lot more tailored conventions for particular fandoms (Whedon, Heroes, Doctor Who, to name a few).

I've been to SDCC, it's worth saving up a fortune for ;) Though really it turned out quite inexpensive as we were lucky with flights and the SDCC 4 day pass at the time was only $75. I think it's more expensive now and also impossible to b*y a 4 day pass when overseas as it goes for pre-sale at SDCC the year before and they all get snapped up.

I know they have a london comic con and memorabilia is in london, manchester and birmingham, but thats as far as it stretches! Not many 'big' names attend either, think the biggest this year was peter dinklage.
Wish I could go san diego:(

there is a major one, isn't there? In april, I think, about £15-20, a few people went last year from fmuk.

Filmcon at earls court is abysmal these days (even when you walk in for free), the only one I have been to worth its salt is the excel centre show.
fav 5 films of the year - Tenet, Bill n Ted 3, Invisible Man, JoJo Rabbit, ?

Major for London but nothing compared to SDCC which is what the OP meant.

better late than never, sorry for late reply.

Anime Con at the Rocket Complex London is one I heard good things about, albeit its a narrow market. They had bands at the Con and a late night after party in the complex too included in the ticket price of £8-£10.
