Birmingham City Council is asking residents to come up with names which properly reflect the history and culture of the city and has teamed up with the Odeon Cinema in a competition.

All good suggestions will be placed on a list from which house builders and developers will have to choose. For a chance to name a street and win family cinema tickets, text street followed by your proposed street name and area to 60066.

To enter online, visit: http://www.birmingham.gov.uk/streetname or write to Birmingham City Council, Transportation Development, Ground Floor, 1 Lancaster Circus, Queensway, Birmingham B4 7DJ. The closing date is July 17 and winners will be announced on July 31.

To enter our competition you will need to provide us with a suggestion for a street name which, is either: culturally, historically or geographically relevant to the area in which you live.

So for example, Poets Corner in Small Heath, Birmingham is named so because the streets around it are all named after famous poets; Tennyson Road being one.

One winner will be randomly chosen from each area of the city (ten winners in total). They will win family cinema tickets and be presented with a street name plate, featuring their proposed name.

However, all suitable street names will be made available to developers who require a new street name. If your proposed street name is chosen by a developer, you will be contacted and invited to the unveiling of your street name plate being placed on the new street.

Please take a few minutes to fill out the competition form below:

Winners will be contacted and announced on 30 July 2009.
