We have a few complimentary tickets available to Boston Musica Viva at Kings Place, NW1 for Thursday, Friday and Saturday next week

For over 40 years, Boston Musica Viva has garnered recognition as one of the world's pre-eminent new music ensembles.

Music Director Richard Pittman and eight gifted players offer three concerts of contemporary music, most of which was originally commissioned and premiered by the ensemble. These programmes give an overview of the diversity of American music and introduce composers well established in the US but infrequently or never performed in London. Over three concerts, BMV will explore the myriad styles of composers including Elliott Carter, Gunther Schuller, Joseph Schwantner, and Michael Gandolfi. Acclaimed mezzo-soprano Pamela Dellal joins BMV for each concert.

THURSDAY 25 MARCH

MUSIC
BOSTON MUSICA VIVA
AN AMERICAN KALEIDOSCOPE
Boston Musica Viva
Richard Pittman music director, Pamela Dellal mezzo-soprano
Programme:
JOHN HUGGLER Capriccio sregolato
JOSEPH SCHWANTER Elixir
DONALD CROCKETT The Cinnamon Peeler
JOHN CAGE Credo in US
CHOU WEN-CHUNG Twilight Colors
Each person looking through a kaleidoscope sees different images, but the vibrant colours and crystalline angles define the experience. Chou Wen-chung conjures the shades of the sunset on New York's Hudson River Valley with Twilight Colors. Pulitzer Prize-winner Joseph Schwantner uses shared monody to brilliant effect in his angular Elixir. Witnessing the music take off in directions of it own volition, John Huggler subtitled his Capriccio sregolato, 'a capriccio with a mind of its own'. In The Cinnamon Peeler, Californian Donald Crockett sets a bold and sensuous love poem by Sri Lankan-Canadian poet Michael Ondaatje. The use of 'chance operations' in John Cage's humorous Credo in US ensures that each performance is different from the last.
/// Hall One, 7.30pm, (running time 1.5 hrs)

FRIDAY 26 MARCH

MUSIC
BOSTON MUSICA VIVA
ALL-AMERICAN GROOVES
Boston Musica Viva
Richard Pittman Music Director, Pamela Dellal mezzo-soprano
Programme:
MICHAEL GANDOLFI Grooved Surfaces
JOHN HARBISON The Seven Ages
RAND STEIGER Elliott's Instruments
ELLIOTT CARTER Triple Duo
'Orderly, and out of long habit, my heart continues to beat,' writes Louise Glück, whose poems are set by John Harbison in The Seven Ages. These four American works explore the rhythms and grooves that meter our lives. The penetrating rhythms of Ghanaian drumming underlie Michael Gandolfi's Grooved Surfaces. Elliott Carter inspires dialogue in a unique rhythmic language between three pairs of instruments in his Triple Duo. p*ying homage, Rand Steiger replicates these couples in Elliott's Instruments.
/// Hall One, 7.30pm, (running time 1.5hrs)

SATURDAY 27 MARCH

MUSIC
BOSTON MUSICA VIVA
AMERICAN VIGNETTES
Boston Musica Viva,
Richard Pittman Music Director, Pamela Dellal mezzo-soprano,
Geoffrey Burleson, piano
Programme:
STEVEN STUCKY Boston Fancies
CHARLES IVES arr. PITTMAN Five Street Songs
DAVID RAKOWSKI Mikronomicon
GUNTHER SCHULLER Four Vignettes
Each piece on this programme features one or several vignettes with the power to transport us to a different time and place. Charles Ives' Five Street Songs evoke the composer's childhood memories of growing up in a small town in New England. Steven Stucky weaves together seven short miniatures in his first work for BMV, Boston Fancies. Each of Gunther Schuller's Four Vignettes is based on the dream-like paintings of surrealist Salvador Dalí. David Rakowski's chamber concerto Mikronomicon features BMV pianist Geoffrey Burleson.

WHISTLE DOWN THE WIND the excellent west end musical comes to Manchester!

We have a few complimentary tickets available to WHISTLE DOWN THE WIND at the Opera House, Manchester, tomorrow night at 7.30pm.

Based on the novel by Mary Hayley Bell and subsequent Richard Attenborough-produced film, Whistle Down the Wind follows the fortunes of a fugitive caught between the prejudice of adults and the innocence of the young. Andrew Lloyd Webber and Jim Steinman, together with Patricia Knop and Gale Edwards (co-book writers with Andrew Lloyd Webber) reset the original story in Louisiana in 1959. Whistle Down the Wind revolves around the time and place where the word teenager was invented. Swallow, a 15 year-old-girl growing up in America's deep South in the fifties, discovers a mysterious man hiding out in a barn. When she asks who he is and the first words he utters are "Jesus Christ", it's as if all her prayers have been answered. Swallow and the town's other children vow to protect the stranger from the world that waits outside - the townspeople who are determined to catch a fugitive hiding it their midst. As fantasy and reality collide, Swallow is torn between the two and begins to discover who she is and where she is going. Andrew Lloyd Webber's emotive score combines hauntingly beautiful love songs and explosive rock music with lyrics by acclaimed rock'n'roll songwriter Jim Steinman. The score contrasts the relentless influence of the modern world with the traditional values of the old days - something which the community at the heart of Whistle Down the Wind yearns to return to.

Seefilmfirst voucher must be swopped for allocated seating tickets from the PRESS DESK between 6 and 7pm tomorrow evening - performance starts at 7.30pm

About the play

Ouisa: "I read somewhere that everybody on this planet is separated by only six other people. Six degrees of separation. Between us and everybody else on this planet. The President of the United States, a gondolier in Venice. Fill in the names."

David Grindley directs John Guare's adrenalin-fuelled Olivier Award-winning play - a sharp, vivacious take on two worlds colliding.

When Ouisa and Flan Kittredge let an injured young man into their home in the middle of the night, they open the door on a new and enticing world. But is it really what it seems Guare's witty play scratches beneath the surface of a world obsessed with money and fame how can anyone be sure that people are who they say they are?

Inspired by the real life story of a flamboyant con artist who convinced wealthy residents in Manhattan that he was the son of actor Sidney Poitier, Six Degrees of Separation is a captivating study of society's pretensions exposed by one man's self-confidence and imagination.

The play originally debuted on Broadway in 1990 and in 1993 it was adapted as a film starring Stockard Channing - reprising her Broadway role - Donald Sutherland and Will Smith. This new production will be the first major London revival of the play in almost 18 years.

Multi-award Winning playwright, John Guares plays include Lydie Breeze, Bosoms and Neglect, Landscape of the Body and The House of Blue Leaves which won an Obie and New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best American Play and four Tony Awards. Six Degrees of Separation received the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award and the Olivier Best Play Award.

David Grindley returns to the Old Vic following the success of National Anthems. Other West End credits include Honour, What The Butler Saw, Some Girls, Journey's End, Abigail's Party and Loot. His recent Broadway credits include The Philanthropist, The American Plan, Pygmalion and Journey's End (which won the 2007 Tony Award for Best Revival).

Obi Abili is a recent graduate of RADA. His theatre work includes Dido Queen of Carthage (National Theatre), Brothers Size (The Young Vic) and Angels in America (Headlong Theatre).

Anthony Head?s television work includes the Golden Globe nominated series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Spooks, Manchild, Little Britain and the highly successful BBC drama Merlin. His theatre credits include Chess, The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Otherwise Engaged in the West End.

Lesley Manville is perhaps best known for her acting collaborations with director Mike Leigh, she has appeared in Secrets and Lies, All or Nothing and Vera Drake. She was last seen at The Old Vic in the world premiere of All About My Mother. Other theatre includes Her Naked Skin, Pillars of the Community and His Dark Materials (National Theatre) and Top Girls (Royal Court) for which she won an Obie Award.

I'm not so sure where to put this kind of things.

To accompany the BBC series Over the Rainbow and to inspire you to join in, we're holding a series a free singing events to give fans the chance to find their voice with a little help from the winner of I'd Do Anything, Jodie Prenger, and some of the ex Dorothys.

It doesn't matter if you've never sung in a group or in public before - the events are aimed at beginners and open to everyone. This is your chance to be part of a musical masterclass.

So if you are feeling inspired to have a go at singing, sign up for your chance to be part of an Over The Rainbow Live Event.

Please note these tickets do NOT provide entry to the studio recordings of the Over the Rainbow BBC One show.

We will be visiting the following venues on the following dates:

Date: Saturday 1 May, 2010
Venue: Leeds Town Hall, Leeds

Date: Sunday 2 May, 2010
Venue: Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow

Date: Monday 3 May, 2010
Venue: Shaftesbury Theatre, London

Date: Tuesday 4 May, 2010
Venue: Shaftesbury Theatre, London

Date: Sunday 9 May, 2010
Venue: St David's Hall, Cardiff

There are two events per day.
