Put a stop to costly Premium phone calls

#1 Post by prettyxcool » Fri Sep 06, 2013 10:21 am

Not sure where to post this, but really feel that everyone should sign the petition to stop these costly premium calls to helplines etc.

Have you noticed how companies often force you to contact them via high-cost phone numbers?
In our Which? Conversation poll, more than 5,000 of you said companies should scrap pricey 0844, 0845 and 0871 numbers for their helplines.
We agree it's outrageous that making a complaint or asking for help comes at a premium. So we've launched a new campaign to ban companies from using expensive phone numbers - will you sign our petition?
We want companies to offer you a cheaper alternative - there should be no exceptions.
Please sign our petition if you want to put a stop to costly customer phone lines.

must add in how I hate that 0800 numbers whilst free on a landline is very expensive on a mobile. And there is more and more people who have given up having a landline and just uses a mobile.

That is true but there is some companies and these are big companies that do not have an alternative to their costly premium lines. And why should we have to search to see if there is an alternative? By the way I do use this website first. Plus what about those people who can't get access to the website because they don't know about it or usually in my case I have no wifi signal.

I use that website all the time, as I begrudge having to p*y extra to contact companies, but I agree with Yinster why should we have to check there, all companies should give a landline number and a freephone number as a matter of good customer service, for both landline users and mobile users! o/

Don't forget to always look for a number that overseas customers can use. That will generally be a landline. All you need to do is exclude the +44 and add 0.

And companies are really crafty now to make sure you ring the premium number as often they would list a landline number for calling from overseas, and I often ring it to be told by an automated response that this number is for overseas callers only! :wall: It used to be my way round premium numbers!

Yeah noticed a big one today. NHS Direct has no alternative numbers for actual health queries, just for their corporate stuff. Spent a stupid amount of time on the phone with them today only to be right back where I started, nothing accomplished! Don't even want to know what the call cost, I honestly thought they'd ring me back later because I didn't think it was that urgent. Does it charge you if an 08 number rings you?
