Re: Free Theatre/Concert Tickets Discussion Thread
caught the lambda showings of Not As We Know It and Have a Nice Life.
Have a nice life was a professionally written musical set in a group therapy session, with some excellent acting and good singing to boot. Very very funny and pretty poignant too, think I am tempted to download the pdf copy of the musical.
Not As We Know It was I think locally written (in LAMBDA) and though it showed, it was still a pretty good show, again perfectly acted but perhaps a bit too long? but it suited the mood for me, straddling comedy and tragedy in equal measure set on a fictional manned mission to Europa. Gravity defying stuff that doesn't shy away from drawing in detail the effects of such a trip on people.

Re: Free Theatre/Concert Tickets Discussion Thread
I've been to see a quite a few theater shows recently (although they were not free)!
Barnum - Dissapointing musical, the songs and poor and the acting was sub par (Chichester Festival Theater) 4/10
The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui - Much Better play, story was slow and drawn out people had left after the first half but the second half was a little faster. The acting was fantastic Henry Goodman stole the show! Worth seeing it London just for Henry Goodman's performance (Minerva Theater - Chichester) - 7/10
Fiddler on the Roof - Another revival of a classic musical, this was the world premier of this new performance which had been choreographed by strictly judge 'Craig Revel Hallwood'. This musical was fantastic! Having not seen the film (due to being quite young and most likely thinking it would be boring), I loved this! The songs were fantastic 'If I were a rich man etc.', the acting was solid too despite the main actor (Paul Michael Glaser) not being able to perform. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good musical! I hope it transferes to london because it deserves to! (Mayflower theater) 9/10

A horse walks into a bar and the bartender asks, "Why the long face?"
A pony walks into the bar and whispers, "I'll have a beer, please." The barkeeper asks, "Why are you whispering?".
"I'm a little hoarse."

Loved Rod Stewart tonight at The O2. Have never been a big fan but thought it was too good an opportunity to miss when I was offered free tickets.
What a great guy and a fantastic concert.

I gave my tickets to my other half and her friend (she is a big fan). My OH said it was disappointing set; that the backing singers sang 3 songs, so did his daughter, with Rod singing a brace of new songs, there was just a handful of his old hits. This was Saturday night. If that was the case he was either taking the mick (most of the tickets cost £60-70) or he was feeling the strain. (They still had a good girls night out)Timbo wrote:Loved Rod Stewart tonight at The O2. Have never been a big fan but thought it was too good an opportunity to miss when I was offered free tickets.

We loved the Rod Stewart concert. We had seats on level 4 but the lower seats. Our Friends also enjoyed it. Thought it was A nice touch for Rod too make it a family event. His Daughter Ruby has a good voice. We were all singing along. Great night out would go again if We get the chance.

Anyone make it to The Ladykillers yesterday? What a great show - absolutely hilarious. I'm a big fan of the film, and Linehan's adaptation nails everything I enjoy about it. Here's my full review:

It took the cast a little time to gel, i thought. Though not too long, they soon got into the groove. It must be difficult to step in a farce cold like that.LondonCityNights wrote:Anyone make it to The Ladykillers yesterday? What a great show - absolutely hilarious. There was also a bit is mischief ad libbing from Simon Day and Con O' Neil from the main cast. No doubt designed to test the inexperienced cast members. It all added to fun. There was lots of it. Methinks Ralph Little - not billed to star, his role taken by a understudy - enjoyed (a little too much) his drag role as a old lady and flirting with Day.
Overall it is a well worked production. The set design is amazing too. God knows what it is like with a well drilled and rehearsed cast. Certainly can recommend. Do not p*y full price, there are plenty of discount deals in the West End at the moment. (only tourists p*y full price).
Finally it was good to see a school party in the audience. The first for me at one of these understudy performances. It is a good idea, given the expense even for groups in the West End. I can't think of a better introduction to the theatre.

By the way the Major wasn't played by an understudy, it was Simon Day.
