Re: Football
You're right, caitlinmorton that you can't just level the term fair weather supporters at Arsenal though that was the only example you gave. I'm writing as an American who has lived here for a very long while and have a son who has supported Arsenal since he was 5 years old and never wavered (and he chose his team himself as I knew very little about football at the time -- thought this has changed greatly now-- and having a father who doesn't care one bit about the sport). This certainly wasn't true of some of his friends when he was in primary school who moved from one winning team to the other.but he did have two very close friends who have also faithfully stuck by their teams of Man U and Tottenham, so you can see my son is very open minded!! And of course there are people who might say the same thing about Chelsea fans when they started winning aftrer a large injection of money and Mourinho. Let's face it -- there will always be two types of fans-- some who want to only support a winner and I would say the majority of others, who go through good and bad times with their team. And you mention Aaron Ramsey but the same could be said about anyone who 'comes good' as well as any manager who 'comes good' and that applies to a good number of teams!caitlinmorton wrote:As someone who consistently supports Fernando Torres through thick and thin its nights like tonight that make me feel so proud. And vindicated. Can't tell you how much I get made fun of for liking the boy, even by other Chelsea fans. Yet I still do.
I have a few close friends who support Arsenal and this time last year were moaning about how crap Aaron Ramsey was (the only non-Chelsea/England player I legitimately like and also always support). Changing their tune a bit this year. All sorts of people like that, supporting all sorts of teams. Like or dislike someone all you want, but fair weather fans annoy me, Chelsea fans included.
PS: CHELSEA WINS! And here I thought Schalke was the one to worry about.

Re: Football
If I used every example I would have gone on forever. That is just one I notice more than others. Trust me, a lot of Chelsea fans are not exempt, as their behaviour towards one Mr. Torres is appalling. The last match I went to I'm fairly certain he was doing badly specifically BECAUSE of what some fans were yelling at him from the stands. It was terrible. I sometimes wonder if I'm the only Chelsea fan that actually likes and supports him, though I actually do get a lot of props from fans of other teams for doing so. I was simply making a generalisation, I wasn't accusing all Arsenal fans of being that way. It bothers me when anyone does it, but in my personal experience with my personal group of friends and acquaintances, I just notice it a bit more with the Arsenal fans I know, and had a very concrete example to back it up. That example could have been anyone, but that's exactly what it was, an example. If my American schooling did one thing it was to teach me to back things up with an example, but that doesn't mean I am only accusing Arsenal.

You're as good as the last goal you score/last game you win :).
Re: Football
See, I don't believe that. I choose to believe in my teams always, no matter how badly they're doing. It kills me when Chelsea (or England, I choose to support them rather than America because it was in England that I was brought to the sport, and I feel a stronger connection with the England players) loses, but it doesn't make me hate them. I feel like bouncing around like that would be exhausting.Sunny Saver wrote:ejwrank wrote: And you mention Aaron Ramsey but the same could be said about anyone who 'comes good' as well as any manager who 'comes good' and that applies to a good number of teams!

I always think back to that match I mentioned where people were shouting terrible things at Torres. If it were me, it would just make me feel down and want to leave, and it was obvious that was what was happening to him. So I stay positive.
Re: Football
I'm already excited for the weekend. The SAS are coming to ruin Arsenals recent fun at the Emirates. I can't wait
Re: Football
A draw in that match and Chelsea winning by two would do me just dandy. Or Liverpool winning by one and Chelsea winning by anything. But I'd rather a draw.

Re: Football
Hoping we come away with the 3 points of course but I reckon neutrals are in for a good match. Early news is that we could have Coutinho back as well but I'd love but only if he is 100%
Re: Football
Personally I'd rather root for my own team to win rather than others draw or lose but .....
