Happy to show you what I know; is it a classical nylon string or steel stringed guitar you have ? The former is gentler on the fingers but both produce a lovely sound. I would recommend you start reading tablature rather than sheet music as it is 1000 times easier and more fulfilling. I'm self taught and I prefer finger picking to using plectrums though suggest you try both styles. What fun lies ahead of you Diane65 ! Ultimate guitar.com is a plentiful resource for guitar tabs. o/

Looks perfectly suitable as a starter instrument...and a bonus is you can use the keyboard to help keep it in tune ! o/

Well I don't really make any proper New Year's resolutions as I know I have little chance of keeping them. But I did vow to make some chutney or jam as I have never managed to make anything that has to go into jars before because for some reason the idea of sterilising jars seemed a step too far-- but yesterday I made De Beauvoir Spiced Apple Chutney with the last of our De Beauvoir, Hackney apples which were still strewn on the lawn. So I managed to stop wasting any food (another vow this year) and to make 5 jars of possibly edible chutney (has to age for 2 months according to the recipe). A little step and not really in the range of those of you who have much greater aims for the year but still thought I'd mark it here.

Sounds just delicious and it doesn't matter how great or small it is every new thing we do is an achievement. I've never made chutney in my life but have eaten plenty of the stuff. Would love to have a few tips on how to make it - I've not sterilised a jar since making lemon curd at school.
